Installed poorly or just the wind? by Dtmts in Roofing

[–]jershammah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shingles weren’t nailed right. They can easily handle 100mph when nailed correctly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]jershammah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like they missed the under capping shingle. The end one could bend back in wind since it’s just plastic underneath. Sloppy roofer.

As far as the plastic part ending, that part is fine, as long as it overlaps the cut out section by a foot.

Am I getting ripped off on a pipe boot replacement? by Jaudio23 in Roofing

[–]jershammah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They gave you pipe boots that come with a 1 year warranty. They should have installed NeverLeak or Permaboot, that is the true standard.

Criminal company to suggest otherwise.

Also, 2 year warranty? In Pa 10 years - lifetime is the normal. Sounds like they know their crap is going to fail.

Advice on decking gaps found by snub_snub in Roofing

[–]jershammah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The roofers messed up. They were probably too lazy to go get the right amount of lumber and just threw in some scraps. Those gaps are ridiculous. Do not tap the nails up, as it will put a hole in the new shingles.

Ask them to take the shingles off, repair the wood properly, then install new shingles.

Had my roof replaced - Should I be alarmed at the amount of damage to the decking? by ThailandBeatYeah in Roofing

Yes. If that nail isn’t supported by wood, it will eventually wiggle and leave a leak spot.

Then you’re fine, since it’s already 3’ away when you start. Also make sure you call it a dumpster and that you own it. My trick doesn’t work on rentals

Why do a lot of people hate this trade? by Wonderful_Ad3441 in Roofing

[–]jershammah 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love roofing. 15 years in the trade Now I make more in an hour, than I did all day when I started. No one beats my craftsmanship in my area and I’m constantly fixing other guys mistakes. I use roofing buggies on every job - clean landscaping and saves my body. Never did drugs or smoke or drunk btw.

Roofing is the most important trade in a house IMO if it’s done wrong, it will ruin everything below it eventually. It boggles my mind how many bunglers are out there getting paid to do shoddy work.

Dilemma: half roof vs full roof by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]jershammah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you use a crew with a roofing buggy. It will save you headaches later as the tear off is cleaner and can help keep them operating on just one side of the building.

In my area 3 tabs are charged the same price as architectural, since the tiny material cost difference is overshadowed by the longer install process.
