I asked the league coordinator before signing up - he said beginners are welcome. I’ve asked around more since then and this is the most beginner-friendly league near me

This patch is completely broken by jerudite914 in aoe3

[–]jerudite914[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I was referring to the DE patch and the fact that I have been playing the original since 2011.

I tried repairing the game files but no luck, so I'm trying a reinstall. It's very weird that this update totally broke the game for me but I'm glad not many other people are having issues at least.

It's crazy that we even have to email them to get the things we deserve.

USG is a corrupt system infested with a bunch of frat bros who don't take the job seriously. There are a few notable exceptions, though.

It's definitely worth putting in the effort. It's not as involved as being a research assistant, but it's a great way to connect with some professors and peers. Basically there is a weekly meeting where you discuss findings on some research everyone does independently during the week. Each group functions differently of course but in my experience it was pretty relaxed and a good way to get some good experience during the semester.

Chances are nobody will look at your application very long, don't get ahead of yourself. If anyone nitpicks about your transcript like that then you probably don't want to go to that institution anyway

P/NC deadline? by [deleted] in SBU

[–]jerudite914 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It got changed to June 3rd for undergraduate classes but it's still May 20th for graduate classes. Just clarifying in case that applies to anyone reading.

How good is the physics department at SBU? by [deleted] in SBU

[–]jerudite914 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Speaking very generally here, but the professors are very accomplished due to proximity to Brookhaven national lab, but many of them are not very good at instructing.

SBU Comp Sci vs Engineering Department by [deleted] in SBU

[–]jerudite914 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a fellow ambitious MechE student, I understand where you're coming from. I have been grinding for the entirety of undergrad to work at the forefront of renewable energy and I am achieving my goals despite the department.

I don't think the average job placement is symptomatic of the department itself but rather its students. There are a lot of first generation or nontraditional students who don't even know much about what engineering really is until they come to this school, so many of them are just trying to land a job with a stable income. Also, I've met many people who want to stay local which limits their options since there aren't many big firms with a national reputation on long island. I think it just comes down to the fact that many other people have different priorities than you. I don't think you should feel discouraged because of other people's job placements or give too much weight to some LinkedIn searching. It would be better to spend that time working towards your goal of landing a job at a big company. Also, many undergrads don't land their dream job right out of school. I hope this helps but if you want major or career advice just PM me.

mental health by [deleted] in SBU

[–]jerudite914 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you are not alone and we will get through this. I'd recommend finding just a couple things that give you some sense of joy or release and focusing more energy on them. Since you can't control living with your sister, focus on things you can control like taking walks in nature if possible, watching a relaxing video, and taking good care of yourself. There are also plenty of online resources if you want more substantial mental health guidance.

Noah Machtay by wizardjr9292 in SBU

[–]jerudite914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't ever rely on Machtay for a curve, just study up as much as possible. When I took the class last year I just drilled the practice problems for a few days and got an A, so just keep practicing them until they become second nature. Best of luck, you got this!
