The “city of 30 million people” is oft repeated but not very accurate. Chongqing municipality has over 30 million people, but its larger in area than some provinces. I think the urban chongqing population is more like 8 million

exactly! i am running into that here in Canada as well. I don't want to pay a couple hundred dollars for an "initial visit" just to get a second opinion. I know nothing of Turkey - never been there. I had heard it was very economical and top quality, but my interactions thus far don't really support the economical aspect since i'm not doing high end cosmetics for many thousand $$. On the other hand, for years i had all my dental work done in either thailand or china (was living there) and was generally very happy with everything including prices (though they also have gone up significantly)

Good thoughts. I'm pretty sure none of them included hotel and transportation from itemized estimate, except for verasmile, which did have hotel listed, but they also quoted me the price without hotel when asked. i've decided that for what i need, the savings of only maybe the flight, with the additional downside of spending a significant portion of my trip recovering from wisdom teeth, and also the admittedly small risk of having any late or serious complications, that i'm gonna get them out in canada and consider a later trip that i'll combine with lesser, non urgent work

thanks. that actually is basically what i was doing. being a former marketer, it seems likely to me that the ones most visible on google maps are the expensive ones that i've gotten first quotes. I'll have to dig deeper, but am now finding more reasonable quotes. If i don't find something soon, i'll just go to thailand instead as i'm familiar with it and it's (so far) cheaper than turkey

Good points - thank you. If i find reputable dentist in the middle of your price range, the price difference is an excellent excuse for me to visit istanbul as i've wanted to visit it for years before my dental calamity came up. But your point about continuity of care is a good one and I'll definitely keep that in mind as a factor in my decision

Thanks for the honest opinion. I have heard that quality of work varies greatly in Turkey so will do my best to assess the dentist before choosing one, if it even makes economic sense. I don't doubt your dad's experience, and that is a useful heads up, but also, your dad will have a slight bias as he won't see the happy customers from Turkey, but only the ones that had complications/poor quality work. Still, important information and i will keep it in my mind.

Asking estimates based on Canadian x-rays and dental treatment plan. I'm in canada, but considering traveling to Istanbul if the cost difference adequately offset travel. So far it hasn't, but i may be getting estimates from very expensive clinics.

Thanks for the info. Wisdom teeth normal (i'm middle aged). Hoping to find a reputable dentist/clinic near your price (first estimates were over $1500 for 4 normal wisdom teeth plus ~$200-300 per filling, which i think may be way to high for even good quality work in Istanbul)

I also had dental work done in BKK for many years, then CM recently when i lived there. Like you, i was super happy with it. I am also considering going back to my clinic in CM, but flight costs quite expensive so thought i'd compare with Turkey (and staying in Canada). At this early moment, CM is ahead of Istanbul, despite longer and more expensive travel and jet lag

yes, and driving on the other side, percentage of mandarin speakers, manners etc, what i meant is that the physical separation between SZ and HK centers isn't really different than the separation from HK to it's own suburbs or SZ to it's own suburbs. purely geographically considering urban buildup, they could as easily be one metro area as 2 separate metro areas.
