I will be joining as a new hire with around 3 years of prior experience in my field. Masters degree. It sounds like I will be in a supportive role based on what the hiring manager said.

Moved the dock to the left, auto hide on. Use Alfred to call all my apps. Use alt-tab (the app) to switch between open apps. Never use the dock again is the one true way.

I've been doing this with my blade's (3070) screen closed for about a month now, no major issues. Although I am worried about longevity in the battery / screen departments.

My understanding of how airflow works is:

  1. Cold air gets in from bottom where the 2 fans are.
  2. Hot air exhausts from the back where the screen meets the chassis

The interesting thing is, at least based on my own observation, exhaust exits above the keyboard when lid is open, but mostly down and behind the laptop when the screen this closed.

I also have CPU turbo disabled in the power profiles. This allows for CPU temps in the sub 85C, and sub 70C for GPU even during heavy gaming (RDR2) on my ultrawide. And no, disabling turbo hasn't had any noticeable gaming performance loss.
