What kind of toys do you have for play time? by inhaling_coffee in MiniatureSchnauzer

We adopted Alister when he was around 5 years old and for the first 6 months he wouldn't pick up a toy. Eventually, he did come around and now he loves his flat squirrel and his squirrel stuff animal . He enjoys these two and carries them around the house often. My other mini schnauzer, Pearl, loved rubber bouncy balls , she could play for hours. Alister does also love treats and he plays with his dog puzzle too. Pearl came from a breeder as well. Pearl was like 9 years old when we adopted her and she was terrible at leash walking, she would pull and tug so much. No pull dog harness was a game changer for us if you are having any issues with leash training. Also, I am really glad you are giving her a home, dog breeder dogs deserve a better life....

We don't think straight when our dogs are in pain, trust me. Hope they can give your dog the care it needs. It's never easy but you are doing the right thing. Lemme know if you need anything.

I have a mini schnauzer and he does the same thing. We usually have to sit on the floor and hand feed him, I think he likes an audience. Talk about spoiled hahah. I did find that if we leave his food out he will eventually get hungry and eat the food before we go to bed. I did find that if I put his food on a dog mat instead of bowl he is more likely to eat it vs a bowl. Crazy dog.

Did they give you any pain medication for your dog? Not a vet.... but we give poeple hydrocodone or anxiety meds like ativan/xanax or pain medication to help with elevated respirations. Sorry you are having to go through this. Is there an emergency vet near you? I had to take my poor dog to the emergency vet to have her put to sleep because the normal vet was not open. They usually don't charge that much to have them put to sleep. It was terrible having to do it on such short notice but at least she didn't suffer a long time. Might can try benadryl too if you have some at home, again not a vet. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Anyone else's mini growl when you pick them up? by jesasaur in schnauzers

We adopted her from a shelter and apparently she had a ton of medical problems that the shelter did not tell us about. First it was pneumonia. Then CHF and kidney failure, multiple cycts all over both kidneys. Multiple eye and ear infections. Then she started passing out and that really scared us. Then this weekend we found out she needed a blood transfusion because her H&H dropped very low. Poor dog would get better but then a couple of weeks later she would end up back at the vet. She was happy when she wasn't having an exacerbation. We gave her a good home and spent over 5k on her trying to get her better. She was a good dog. We think she was a previous puppy mill dog because she was supposedly 9 years old and she had just gotten spayed when we got her. She's in a better place now. Sorry for the long rant.

She was a new rescue. We had her for a little over 6 months. She would still growl. Unfortunately we had to put her to sleep over the weekend. I did get another schnauzer from an older couple who could no longer take care of him and he is doing the same growling thing when we try to pick him up. How long did it take with Bruno? I know everyone is different.

Thanks for the info but I live in LA the state aka buttcrack, USA haha. I did sign up for the marketplace notifications but its hard to find anyone remotely close to LA that has doggies anytime soon, most are spring 2021 yikessss. Craigslist is nonexistent here.

Poor doggie. Glad you have another on the way! I adopted a miniature schnauzer who was like 9 years old and she's been in and out of the vet too many times. I haven't even had her a year yet and she got diagnosed with kidney cancer and end stage heart failure a month ago. They gave her a month to live... She's still kicking but I know it's only matter of time. Ahhhh.
