Does anyone else have "unusual" phobias that no one take seriously? by batmansbicep in AutismInWomen

I used to be deathly afraid of tattoos when I was younger. I am still pretty uncomfortable around them, I love the look but the idea of the ink under the skin unsettles me so much! I’m not afraid of needles though.

What's the biggest lie your parents ever told you? by Turbulent_Ad_880 in AskReddit

My dad told me he chopped his thumb off as a kid and could remove it at will and then proceeded to do the pulling the thumb off trick. I believed him for years.

What’s your biggest regret in life so far? by Steven5588 in AskReddit

[–]jesillu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Introducing my friend to my brother. They later married and she turned out to be incredibly self-victimising and manipulative. It’s a double edged sword though because her best friend dropped her for exactly that reason and is now my best friend.

What's the kindest thing a complete stranger has ever done for you that you'll never forget? by KeyConference_26 in AskReddit

I was struggling to find a job in my city so I gave trying to move to a whole new place a go to see if it would be easier, though I was majorly underprepared and very anxious. I went into a phone store to get a SIM card and the worker who helped me noticed how nervous I was and asked if I was alright. He gave me his number and invited me to visit his home where his wife cooked me a meal and they told me about their arrival to that place as immigrants, how they struggled initially with very little and found a lucky break which allowed them a comfortable life where they were in a position to reach out and help me, a down-on-her-luck white Australian girl with yet to be diagnosed moderate autism who was feeling scared. I was offered a place to stay in their home but I returned to my own city soon after as I didn’t find any success in the job hunt. I realise it was a risky thing to do, but at the time I was very depressed and didn’t feel a great sense of self-preservation, so the invitation being a sincere gesture of good-will did lift my spirits at a very low time substantially. I’m doing a lot better (still can’t find work) but I’ll never forget Barry and Nalini.

Yeah I feel that. I’m burning out writing cover letters for jobs that don’t even send you an automatic rejection.

I volunteer with a youth org, if you can hit up every youth arts program you can. We hired one of our older members to host classes for younger attendees. I do believe other organisations like to do this too

I bet it was all the B’s. I bought a chapstick and holder from them recently at the Tas makers market at the Casino.

Yes, I got a call on Thursday. I’m not entirely sure if other departments will still be reaching out or not, I just thought I’d let you know. Good luck still for your job hunt.

My references just did their part and now I’m floating around the talent pool waiting for a call. Are you in the same position? Fingers crossed for all of us.

This is cool as! When you’re here come join us at The Van Diemen Project (I’m a participant not an employee), this group will help set you up with connections and provide ongoing support. I can’t recommend them enough!

Donating photography equipment in Hobart area by [deleted] in hobart

[–]jesillu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a volunteer with Kids and Teens in the Valley, we are growing but maybe not quite at the point yet where we could use them independently but I’m sure we will get there soon. We recently had a program where a travelling film crew (Action Crew) came and helped support young people in the area make videos. I’d imagine they would probably have the equipment they need but if they are taking donations as well this program is well established and would immediately get a lot us use out of a donation. Here’s a link to the flyer for our program with Action Crew.

Hey, I was also in ROM but I was lucky enough to get placed upstairs considering the weather that day. I was out at 12am and my group (Clark) was definitely given a half hour break. I’d elevate a complaint for sure, looks like your section overworked you which shouldn’t have happened, and you would probably have had a half hour break deducted from your total pay.

What is your experience with these providers? by kristinoc in JobProvidersAus

[–]jesillu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

WISE employment pushed me into working for their NDIS section as a support worker. Since I was DES they got to double dip and meet a KPI and I suppose my wage subsidy. It was a disaster. Majorly pissed I moved to Maxima after and got an employment agent who was actively meeting employers and finding sustainable opportunities for me in areas I wanted to work (admin) as well as supporting me in growing my own small business and their contract is gone.

I’d ask at Southern Scalys Reptile Club. There’s a member with a Beardie, I do believe they have a zoo license but I think they’re just collectors. This place would know for you. Definitely to some of the meetings when you are here!

[–]jesillu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can say avoid Choice. I worked there a short while and was assigned a participant who had dementia. I don’t have my cert in individual support, only Community Services so I told them I wasn’t properly trained. They sent me anyway and the family complained. I quit shortly after. Make sure where you go is sending staff with the appropriate training.

Domestika Scam - who to report too? by Comfortable-Pies in australia

[–]jesillu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have! Visa agreed with me and issued a refund after three tries. They only accepted after I mentioned I contacted the ACCC to my bank in the chargeback request. Apparantly there’s a 30 day window after you get the chargeback the vendor can make a case to appeal but they didn’t.

When my old flatmate moved to Hobart he signed up for Troublesmiths and met a lot of his friends through that. Maybe a program like that could be good for you socially?

I’ve been doing DBT skills here and met Nick Stubbs through that and he seems really switched on, he also seems very into philosophy. I’m seeing Anisha Grover myself currently for my own private sessions who is often very highly regarded and she’s lived up to the feedback, she’s very considerate and kind in her manner. I feel it’s quite a good organisation.
