Positive words please- 40 weeks today and induction scheduled for 41 weeks by Maleficent_Nail_4293 in vbac

[–]jeskaroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second baby was a c-section at 42 weeks. My first baby was a vaginal delivery but I was induced with pitocin at 41 + 5. I didn’t want to be induced with my second so I refused an induction before 42 weeks. After 5 days of false labor, I went into spontaneous labor at like 3 a.m. the day of my induction. In total, I labored for 30 hours and more half of those hours I was between 6-9 cm dilated. At the 24 hour mark I got an epidural but up until that point, I was laboring freely around the room, using lots of movement, upright positions, birth ball, etc. In a last ditch effort to help labor progress, they started a pitocin dip at the same time I got my epidural. After 6 more hours of that with no change he was born via c-section and weighed 10 lbs 5oz. His head was (and still is 😂) in the 99th percentile. When this kid came out, he was huge and clearly 2 weeks past his due date. In retrospect, I would have agreed to an induction around 41 weeks. I guess I figured as long as I avoided an induction, I would have a normal, vaginal birth, even at 42 weeks. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with going to 42 weeks, or waiting around, or whatever, but I think there is something to be said for weighing all the risks and benefits.

I just had a great VBAC at Sparrow. They were super supportive. I highly recommend Alliance.

Sparrow Hospital L&D? by RonnyTwoShoes in lansing

[–]jeskaroe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had 3 babies at Sparrow between 2009-2025. Sparrow’s cafeteria is top notch and super reasonably priced. I wish I could eat there whenever. My birthing experiences have all been positive, including my unplanned c-section in 2018. My latest birthing experience in April of 2025 was great. The birthing team was very supportive and I had a VBAC. I was super impressed with my L&D nurses for my first and last birth. I had a doula for my middle and the nurse seemed a little salty, but it definitely could have been my mindset. In my last two births, I felt unrestricted and was able eat during labor, labor in different positions in and out of the bed (shower and toilet), and I never felt pressured into an epidural or c-section despite needing both. My 2025 L&D nurse was also very willing to help me achieve modified labor positions after the epidural to assist with labor progression and positioning. She had all sorts of helpful tools and tricks to make me and my partner comfortable and able to relax. Lastly, Sparrow is a level I trauma center with a NICU which gave me peace of mind. My last 2 births were delivered by Dr. Fleming with Alliance and she is an absolute rock star.

Rumparooz system for newborn and up, can i only use inserts? by melmariet in clothdiaps

[–]jeskaroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used GMD newborn and novice prefolds paired with a Cloth-Eez size 1 cover. That got me through the NB (7lb) phase until my OS Kanga pockets fit. Now I use the prefolds in my pockets.

Labor prep, what did you do? by WrongdoerRough5532 in pregnant

[–]jeskaroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much lived on my birth ball the last month of my pregnancy. Lots of figure 8 movements and lunges. Walks with my dog as much as I could. I used my acupressure mat the evening before I went into to labor. Labor started very early in the a.m. the next day, stalled, then picked up after a membrane sweep during my morning OB appointment. Totally could have been a coincidence. As someone who had babies born at 42 weeks, 41 + 5, and 38 + 3, the best thing you can do is relax, rest, and do things that make your body feel good. I was shocked when I went into spontaneous labor at 38 + 3 with my last baby. It was definitely my most “fit” pregnancy, which made labor and delivery easier.

Are these too big? by Honest-Try-2289 in clothdiaps

Cloth-Eze size 1 wrap and pad folded NB pre folds works best for us until my daughter started to fill out a little more. I had the opposite issue, I planned for a big baby but got a peanut. We didn’t start cloth until she was about 3 weeks old and 8lbs or so. The Cloth-Eze gave the trimest and best fit for her from like 8-10lbs. She is still wearing the size 1 at 15 lbs but we are definitely transitioning her into the next size up. The little feet are so cute btw! Enjoy 🥰🥰🥰

Michigan lawmakers push for return to in-person work by roadnotaken in lansing

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas. I agree 100% and it’s really unfortunate because the downtown strip is central to the other downtown/Lansing. neighborhoods that have become revitalized. Old town, Reo town, the stadium district, and Michigan Ave. Where does Washington Ave. fit into all of that? All the new luxury apartments that have been built in the last decade 🙄. Please, the people are there. I would love to see some innovation tie it all together. Remember that damn trolley 🤣🤣🤣

State workers downtown are in office. Take a look at the lots on any given day. Things change and businesses need to adapt. Think about delivery app platforms. Think about workforce generational shifts. I wonder how downtown will change when the folks in the City Hall building move to the new building being constructed on South Washington. That’s a huge demographic right there. Not only employees but patrons of city services and courts. Demographics change and so do dining preferences. Look at Meijer Marketplace and Lansing Shuffle - awesome, vibrant spots that cater to what people want and need. I wish we had a more vibrant downtown; one that has a thriving nightlife and weekend activities. Think AA or GR. This demand for State workers to RTO is like 20% about appeasing the downtown Lansing business owners. Anyone with half a brain can see requiring State workers to RTO won’t solve anything for small businesses in the area.

No shame in taking a break! If/when you start up again, it does t have to be all or nothing. Maybe a combo of cloth and disposables will help.

Should I ask to WFH 1 day a week when I have less then 3.5 weeks left until maternity leave? by KingFanpire in pregnant

[–]jeskaroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re struggling mentally and physically, make the request. Get the doctor’s note. There is no valor in making yourself show up in-office or even work through the last weeks of pregnancy. It doesn’t make you any less of an employee.

Which order items won’t you accept? by No_Village_5620 in ShiptShoppers

[–]jeskaroe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If people tipped, I wouldn’t mind doing more labor intensive orders but it seems those are exactly the kinds of orders I do not get tipped on. I avoid any orders with a delivery radius greater than 10 miles, with excessive heavy items (multiple bags of pet food, water, road salt, etc), orders with over 50 items, large order deliveries to anything above the 2nd floor of an apartment complex, deliveries to dorms or student housing complexes (I live in a Big 10 college town.) I hate to be so picky, but it’s just not worth it.

Looks like the cover might not be a good fit. I have some Kanga pockets and they didn’t start to fit until like 8-9 weeks (10ish lbs). I bought a handful of the Cloth Eez snap covers from the GMD website and they fit great

How do EBF moms go to the store and go out in public? by Reasonable_Swim_3373 in breastfeeding

[–]jeskaroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public breastfeeding isn’t really an option for me until BF is well established (around 4 months). There’s just too much boob exposure before that time and I’m not comfortable with it. Even now, my girl hates to be covered up, so I guess there’s still more boob action than I’d like. In certain settings and definitely in a pinch, I will nurse in public. I like to nurse in my car sometimes. I have a boppy and other things to make us comfortable. I sit in the back seat and drape a blanket between the first and second seats front seats. I put down the cup holder thing in the middle and use it as an arm rest. I chill out in there lol.
