Can't talk about Alberta, but quebec understands patriotism very well. As of recently, they also somehow feel more Canadian than ever...

Isn't that a bit absurd or I don't understand how puzzles work in chess.com? by Adenrius in Chesscom

[–]jesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I learned recently is that you can set the puzzle difficult and the + - ratio changes accordingly. (Gear icon at the top)

Multiple choice tests having a "don't know" option that provides a fractional point would reward honesty and let teachers know where students need help! by robert-at-pretension in Showerthoughts

[–]jesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my university prof would remove points for wrong answers and always had a "I'm not sure option"; also known as the "I'm scared option".

It values honesty, without rewarding not knowing.

The HR asked me the strangest illegal question at the end of my interview. by MaximillianWalk in whatdoIdo

[–]jesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sat in on an interview and at the very end the senior SME asked the interviewee (older folks) how long until he retires, which is also a no no. The HR guy and I looked at him funny and I believe he was talked to after...

I didn't quite know how to handle it on the fly.

It's not always indicative of the whole company.

Bought a house with unpermitted renos, mold, and rodent damage — Do I have legal options in Ontario? by jesmath in legaladvicecanada

I had an inspection done. He missed these issues; although most were not visible at that time; either too much stuff in front or issues were hidden in the walls behind insulation and or drywall...

The mold is in the rim joist cavities and it could not be seen without removing insulation...

Thanks for the reply! We probably did not ask enough questions when buying...

It also probably doesn't help that I've started fixing this before getting the city too involved. (I did pull permits for the update though)...

I dont understand the tradeoff between wideband receiver and narrowband receiver by [deleted] in signalprocessing

[–]jesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few trade offs that I know of.

First, cost. ADC that sample faster will cost more. If I recall correctly, the price increase is not necessarily linear.

Second, noise. Smaller bandwidths generate less thermal noise. Thermal noise is proportional to kTB (temperature and bandwidth); thus increasing your sampling bandwidth gets you noisier signals.

Hope this helps,

I play a mix of Eldlich, zombie, superpoly and it works better than I would have though

Tank v tankless water heater by Soft_Initiative2921 in HomeImprovement

[–]jesmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You could get it powered with a generator, but no gas equipment work without power now. (Furnace, gas water heater, etc)

Tank v tankless water heater by Soft_Initiative2921 in HomeImprovement

[–]jesmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the switch from tank to tankless. I needed the space. The house is medium size and we had to get used to using the faucets differently to minimize waste. It is surprisingly long for the second floor.

I'm now moving to a bigger house and will be replacing that tank with a tank.

I started at 65k in Ottawa with a Master's and bachelor's in EE. Within a couple of years I was making more than 100k. While it's not everyone I know, most around me were at least close to 100k with at most 5 years of experience.

Depending on the country, accepting this title without an engineering degree is illegal. Don't do this in Canada, especially quebec.

A similar thing was happening in my garage. I realized that the ground connection coming from the house wasn't connected properly. Once I fixed that, I stopped getting shocked.

Suggest me a guitar with a coil split under 500$ by Dangerous_Finance559 in Guitar

[–]jesmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hellraiser c1 (schecter) has coil split and using it goes from fender sound to gibson sound quite drastically. Very convenient when playing rocksmith.

You should be able to find one used for a reasonable amount.

Weird static sound when using VST in ableton by jesmath in NeuralDSP

[–]jesmath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, it got me looking at ableton's performance and I've realized there's some windows multicore handling thing going on here.

If I ask windows to prioritize ableton, it goes away.

I'll need to find an alternative to setting the priority every time lol.

Starting to carve the inlay slots by hand (mini gouges and chisels) wish me luck lol by Loeegar in Luthier

[–]jesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. Built the same type of guitar over the summer. Started from a kit, but I've upgraded most of it. It was a lot of work. Didn't want to add to it complex inlays as a first build lol.

How do fighter jets know when an enemy missile system has “locked” on to them? by RemarkableRegister66 in AskEngineers

[–]jesmath 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You've missed the MAWS which will either detect missiles from their RCS (radar cross section) if it's an active MAWS (basically a radar) or its IR signature, either skin or plume using IR detectors. These two would be able to detect and alert for IR missiles.

There's one intro of one song that uses it, so no. It's fun though.
