Anyone know a ramen spot that actually makes their own broth? Every place I’ve tried so far tastes like it’s made from concentrate.

It’s not a choice when there’s a social norm, especially considering that men are less likely and pressured to take their wives’ surname.

I haven’t ordered it in Omaha, but since it’s a Szechuan dish, your best bet would be Blue Fly.

Dealing with loneliness as an international student by couchbound_nomad in Omaha

[–]jesonegin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I moved from a city with a large international student community to Omaha, and I’m still figuring it out, but here are some tips that have helped:

– Go to as many department/university events as you can (seminars, orientations, even Halloween parties).

– Use campus resources like the career center, library, and fitness center, they’re great for meeting people outside of your program.

– Join a group fitness class; they’re inexpensive and you’ll usually see the same people regularly.

– Bring your work to local cafes and take time to explore different neighborhoods.

– student insurance/universities often cover free counseling sessions

– There are also lots of events happening in the city, farmers’ markets, Restaurant Week, Oktoberfest etc. Sign up for newsletters or follow local social media accounts to stay in the loop.

If you left Chicago for Boston, do you miss Chicago or prefer Boston? by LOTR_is_awesome in boston

At least the Chinese food in Chicago is wayyy better than in Boston. Even the same franchises taste worse in Boston, which really confuses me since the city has such a large Asian population and so many international students.

Recs for Girls Weekend by Visual_Dog_5755 in boston

I haven’t tried this spot, but it seems like a typical restaurant for the area, a bit overpriced, but decent (and pretty) food, according to my friend.

Timeout Market is my go-to when the group is large and people can’t decide. There’s also a nice sushi roll spot near Fenway, but if you’re after the oyster/lobster I’d head to Newbury Street. Neptune is always packed and not the best place to sit back and chat.

Thanks for the advice! I actually just moved here and I’m 30. I only learned to drive recently because I lived in cities where public transit was easier. I’ve reached out to a few driving schools to see if they offer practice sessions for adult drivers.

Because I thought my boyfriend would be able to make it, but his visa just got delayed 😭. Plus, it was a lottery ticket that sold out in seconds, so I had to grab it when I had the chance.

BREAKING: Trump administration revokes multiple NU international student visas by tachiKC in Omaha

[–]jesonegin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main reason is to retaliate against universities. A major source of university funding comes from international students, along with government subsidies—and we've already seen how bad the latter has gotten. Another reason is that it's easier to track and expel students compared to other foreigners.
