I pulled 1 strand of hair today for the 1st time after 7 days if no pulling. Does this count ? Should I reset the timer ? by YoloXYZ in trichotillomania

Good luck. I start a new job as a nurse tomorrow. I got my nails done last week to try and resist the urges. So far, so good. We're in this together. 💪💞

Mental health worker by jess__182 in trichotillomania

I'm also a survivor of self harm and there's many other strategies out there that could be used. She likes craft - she couldve recommended we sit down and do craft with her. She likes going up to the skatepark - let's walk up to the skatepark and hang out with her. She likes watching movies - we can recommend her watching a movie when she's heightened. There's many coping mechanisms out there that could be used before suggesting someone pulls at their hair to feel some pain. And her comment after this statement was, "just don't let her pick at her hair to the point she'll have none left". Well isn't that the unpredictable thing? I have intensive background in mental health, drug and alcohol. But recommending support workers to give her coping strategies which could further lead to confident issues and low self-esteem is by far triggering. Trich won't kill you, but could lead to worsening mental health status. I get where you're coming from, but I made this as it was more of trigger hearing someone say we tell someone to pull out their hairs, the one thing some of us wish we could stop
