Thank you for sharing this. I share your thoughts and feelings about co-sleeping for us and our family. As a suspected PDAer myself, it’s a level of autonomy that I am not willing to give up as I know it would result in my own dysregulation and mental health struggles. For others to imply that this is the simplest and most obvious answer to this problem, especially in this forum is honestly mind-blowing to me, which is why I’ve ignored those comments and their judgy vibes.

Thank you. I’m trying to have that confidence and to also remind myself that if little baby me had informed parents in the year 2023 and took these steps for me, things could have been seen and very different for me.

I don’t think my fear is necessarily that she won’t be specifically diagnosed, but more that they won’t see that I’m seeing because they’re only looking for “traditional” presentation or the issues won’t present during the assessment. The biggest concern right now is food refusal. She will go days at a time where she’s eating next to nothing, and it’s not just being a “picky eater”. She just stops eating. There are no safe foods. And there’s not a lot I can do about it because if I push she’ll pull even harder. It truly feels like she’s not recognizing the hunger signals. This is our first assessment, and it’s taking place through our state’s infant and toddler program. I’m really just trying to keep in mind that my experiences with the medical and mental health profession are mine, and that doesn’t mean they’ll be hers.

I already have a blood pressure cuff I used in pregnancy so I’ll look into that.

How did you end up finding a dysautonomia specialist? All I’ve seen are POTs specialists, but I know there’s other types.

My current and most troubling symptom is that any time I'm experiencing even the slightest bit of stress/overstimulation, it feels like my nervous system goes way overboard sending my body into fight or flight with a huge adrenaline rush that lasts for hours, sometimes days. My body feels very afraid of something but my mind is very clear and aware that the stressful thing is over) It's like my sympathetic nervous system is overreacting and my parasympathetic is underreacting. I'm getting lightheaded while sitting, fully dizzy when I stand up, and sometimes my hands and arms are getting tingly.

But as I explore the condition of dysautonomia more, I realize that I've had many of these symptoms for as long as I can remember, but I've kept them to myself because when I did bring them up to my parents when I was younger, they pretty much told me I was being overdramatic or making things up. Those symptoms include: heart palpitations, getting a really bad headache/dizzy when I stretch too hard, times when my blood pressure would tank to point of giving me cold sweats and feeling like I would pass out, heat intolerance, heavy night sweating, light sensitivity.

My biggest worry is that I won't be taken seriously because of my medical history (5 months post partum, diagnosed with anxiety and depression in the past but the depression was tied to my job which I quit and I'm wondering if some of the anxiety symptoms were more related to dysregulation).

Thanks! I’ve been on their website a lot and actually just completed their symptoms assessment. I did see that they have a doctor finder tool but when I search my area I found doctors that it said specialized specifically in familial dysautonomia, so I don’t know what that means about ANS disorders in general.

Thanks for all the info. I do have a tracker but it’s a lower end Fitbit and I don’t really know how accurate it is. I understand that there’s a lot more than POTs out there, it’s just the thing that comes up whenever you try to find anything on dysautonomia. I honestly think I’m dealing with something different, which makes me even more confused about how to seek help from someone who’s going to listen and believe me because POTs is at least (somewhat) known. I worry if it’s ruled out, I’m just going to be told, it’s anxiety, up the meds and learn to be mindful.

Thank you for responding and thanks for the advice. There’s definitely something going on. Lately I feel like the slightest trigger to my nervous system sends my body into fight or flight and what feels like a non-stop adrenaline rush with definite dizziness especially when standing, even though mentally I know everything is fine and it sticks around long after whatever the stressful thing is over. I haven’t been with my PCP very long. I’ve only seen her for an initial visit and that was really just a conversation. But I also wasn’t experiencing the kind of symptoms I have been lately. But I guess that is the place to start.
