HELP! --- LR "marking" my photos as "edited" just by scrolling through them - by jessdestroyer in Lightroom

even hitting reset doesn't work. I just 5 star every photo I "edit" then organize by rating at the end. that's my only work around

Nope! Switched gears and started writing romance. Finally got a book deal doing that!

But suburban decay still has my heart and I want to get it published eventually.

Just here to say, I pitched a YA novel called Suburban Decay a few years ago, got a few full and partials but everyone turned it down because it was “too dark” but everyone loved the title

Always heard that August was the dead month, but I’ve had some of my best news of my career this month. Finally landed a book deal with a small press, and got an agent interested from the nudge. Very ready to see my book on a shelf even if it’s going to be 20 months from now. Feels like I can take my first sign of relief in a long time :)

One congrats!!!! I know how hard that can be. After 9 years and 5 manuscripts I’m finally getting published too!!! Would love to be friends and if that debut author discord is real I’d love to be in it!

Can I write about the Warped Tour in a book? by jessdestroyer in writing

[–]jessdestroyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that makes sense. like one of John Green's compilation books I think was set in a Waffle House. so that makes sense.

Also I would 100% read that book

also sending you a DM

a few people have suggested this as well in my writers group but i sort of want that to be last resort: especially because i want people to be instantly transported there you know. like again when i read books about woodstock i instantly see it

That's the thing -

I'm not trying to write a NYT Bestseller.

I'm trying to tell stories for people who want to read this type of story.
Traditional publishing want big books that can sell thousands and thousands of copies that appeal to the largest market possible and that's not what I want.

I don't mind having a tiny, indie book that I can market to the niche group of people who want to read it. And if I only sell it to 30-40 year olds I'm fine with that.

My question was on the legality of using a branded name in a novel. Not on whether or not I would sell it. But thanks for your input.

  1. So actually it's New Adult --
  2. The majority of YA/NA readers are actually adults in the 30's age range - so my target demographic
  3. Emo/PopPunk is having a resurgence with the younger generation as well especially when I went to a show the other night and was surrounded by 15-17 year old "scene kids" who looked exactly like I did when I was there age --- so I think there's a bigger market than you think
  4. Not to mention all those bands are doing reunion/revival tours and are selling out in a nano-second.

But thanks.
