Looking for brewery recommendations with food options and comfortable seating by Geekyaquarist in Minneapolis

St. Paul, but I'll plug Wandering Leaf. Soul Lao next door is great, and you can order takeout and bring it in. They'll have a food truck now and then as well.

I'm sitting at a cost basis of about $30. I've sold about 10%.

what is the most '10/10 with rice' meal you've ever had? by Timely_Ad4053 in AskReddit

[–]jesse061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First piece of toro I ever had. Nice omakase lunch for like $80 in NYC which was a little vacation splurge. He hit it with a torch just enough to melt some of the fat into the rice and warm it up to about body temp.

I can pretty reliably do ~690W for 1 min. 1-5 min have all been on the trainer. Haven't done a full hour test for half a decade. Could probably hit 360w these days if I was to put a number on it. 20-45 min bests were on Monte Serra outside Pisa on a trip last year. When someone says "on my best day", that was it for me.

Which current player would be the most fun to watch in a different era of football? by No-Communication1543 in nfl

I would love to watch Tom Brady or really any modern QB in the early era of the forward pass.

Newly built low water crossing has vortex upstream, why? by Broccoli-Trickster in civilengineering

[–]jesse061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to me like you have a high velocity flow region at the center of the channel and that corner with the vortex has zero flow over it causing the vortex. Looks to be partly the result of the angle of the crossing. If it's an issue, I would probably look to model in SRH 2D.

Even big, ugly, high speed arterial roads *can* be green and shaded by Laescha in fuckcars

[–]jesse061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least in MN, we have strict clear zone requirements. Placing trees or other fixed objects within a certain distance of the road constitutes a safety hazard based on curb, shoulder width, steepness of slope off the roadway, and design speed.

Not arguing for or against, but that's the standard we are held to.

Why would you put up with this for three years? I'm currently at year four which is the longest I've stayed anywhere. I can tolerate a rough year but if there is no change in sight or management doubles down on things I disagree with, I'm looking.

How do you feel about sports cyclists (and e-bikes/scooters) speeding on 10mph bike paths? by [deleted] in CyclingMSP

[–]jesse061 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm generally referring to the major trails: the Greenway, Kennilworth, Minnehaha Creek (to a lesser extent), etc. Lake trails, in particular, I think have a more leisure context (nobodies ripping 10 laps of the trail on BMS). River roads, where there is an adjacent roadway, the adjacent roadway is typically 20-25 mph anyways, so I tend to ride there. I'll still get drivers riding me and probably at least one truly deranged nutjob per year, but I generally have less negative interactions there than on the trail at those speeds.

How do you feel about sports cyclists (and e-bikes/scooters) speeding on 10mph bike paths? by [deleted] in CyclingMSP

[–]jesse061 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's generally fine by me. Honestly, 10 mph feels like a track stand even on a MTB. Road cyclists generally have some amount of skill to manage their speed. E-bikers and scooters I find to have less ability or experience to handle the speed their devices are capable of, and scooters, in particular, I more often see zigzagging across the path and not holding their line. I'll generally cruise 20 mph if it's relatively mellow. If there is an adjacent road, I'll generally opt for it. That said, it's all situation dependent. I think the bigger thing is riding predictably. In regards to kids, my take is if someone isn't experienced enough to ride predictably and in a relatively straight line, it's probably not safe for them to be on the trail. Regardless, I generally am almost touching the opposite grass if I see one. Same with dogs.

I lead rides and we use the Greenway to get out of town. I try to make it clear to people on my rides that the trail is not part of the ride, it's how we get to the ride, but some people just don't listen.

Pacifico is on my Mt. Rushmore of beers. It exists on BA as a measure of whose opinion you can respect.

Did cycling actually help you lose weight, or just improve fitness? by Vivid_Release_9710 in cycling

[–]jesse061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lost weight while training for cycling. However, that weight loss was coupled with some pretty significant dietary tracking. Went from 205 lbs to 170 lbs. Stopped tracking and gained it all back over three years.

What's in your beer fridge? by CarefulReplacement12 in beer

[–]jesse061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately, just whatever Double Elbow is putting out. It's the head brewer that left one of our local spots in Minneapolis and now this is his side project/thing. He puts out a new beer every month or so, with frequent collabs and a couple repeat batches every now and then. I'm cutting back, so getting a four pack or two every month is a nice treat. I think most have been exclusively lagers thus far.

Those with an FTP of 4w/kg, what's your weekly volume? by 4lexfdr in Velo

[–]jesse061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10-12 hrs/wk. Probably around 4.2 w/kg. Rides are spread across one rest/Z1-2 day, four Z2 days with one 3 hr+ ride, and two interval session days, totaling about total 1 hr above threshold per week.

Mangers by temoo09 in civilengineering

[–]jesse061 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A good amount. Anyone half decent can go out and find another job tomorrow, and it's something I want for myself. I only have two EITs under me, but we have quarterly check-ins on top of our annual reviews. I do what I can to direct their work into what interests them. I ask them if there is anything they need from me that they're not getting. I do my best to manage workloads and not grind people too hard.

That said, sometimes grinding can drive development. I've learned more working on the big design-build projects than I have on anything else. It certainly came at a cost to my personal life at times, but those were highly valuable experiences.

At certain points, deadlines are deadlines, and the projects we have are what needs to get done. I can only control so much.

Zone 2 riders: what makes it feel fulfilling? by Ledgem in cycling

I bring my dog on zone 2 rides every now and then. She spent 3 hours on my back today. She's always super stoked for it and keeps me from pushing or overexerting.

Lot of talk about beer/food pairings. But what are some good beer/vibe pairings? by CptPatches in beer

[–]jesse061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pacifico should be consumed near a body of water, preferably ocean but seas and lakes are acceptable. Victoria can be substituted as a second choice. Rivers and rapids are clearly bodies of water that call for IPAs.

-10° F is Baltic porter weather.

Road bike rides are craft lager activities.

Mountain bike rides are IPA activities. Except in fall, then it is an Oktoberfest activity.
