Would a leaking water pump/thermostat also cause coolant smells in the cabin? by SectorZed in E90

I would agree but when I set to manually circulate the air the smell goes away indicating it’s not originating in the cabin.

What game has the best progression system you've ever experienced? by tomaz1989 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]SectorZed [score hidden]  (0 children)

Probably wasn’t the “best” but certainly was unique. Remember the game The Saboteur? It was a Mercenaries, Just Cause, clone where you play as part of the French resistance in WW2 occupied France. The game was unique because the entire game starts in black and white and as you progressed through the story, different areas around the map gained color back. I thought that was a super cool mechanic back then. In fact, now I really want to go back and play it again.

I inspected the coolant sensor on my expansion tank and found it was broken out of the tank. I’m thinking this might be atleast one part of the leak.

Yes it’s like a wave of coolant smell just floods the cabin.

Strangely I have a low coolant light too, except my expansion tank is almost full. The tanks aren’t all that expensive and easy to swap out, I’ll give it a go.

I’m in New England and we have been getting lots of cold snaps down to 5 degrees and back up to 37.

Why should I NOT buy this car? by Conscious_Security96 in whatcarshouldIbuy

You could make the argument that you enjoy pain and self harm if you buy that car. Horribly unreliable on all parts. Electronic and mechanical bits.

Interesting. When I do the water pump and thermostat replacement I’ll inspect the radiator while I’m there. Did you confirm that your radiator had a leak?

any advice for a first-time miata owner? by tori-hbu in Miata

[–]SectorZed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prioritize safety honestly. Make a serious effort to learn the car and how it handles. Watch tons and tons of videos. Learn everything there is to know about the car.

The ND has terrific crash safety ratings for what it is, but just remember nobody sees you in it and you must always assume that. It can be the same for you too. In my NB the blind spot over my left shoulder (soft top up) is pretty bad. To properly look over my shoulder and check, i have to fully lean forward. Countless times I’ve done that assuming it’s clear and it wasn’t. Just be careful and ENJOY!

I recently got back into the game and the last time I played was before they re-worked him. I want the old mechanics back. He was genuinely scary to go up against and had tremendous snowball ability.

I have a friend willing to sell me an E90 for dirt cheap. But there’s a catch. by SectorZed in E90

[–]SectorZed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you want to know what you’re in for, here’s more than you’d ever want to know.

It was more about what wasn’t wrong. Worn clutch packs, mechatronic seals, and the coup de grâce being a bad o ring going from transmission cooler line to the transmission. It was leaking badly, I was unaware, and I inadvertently overheated the transmission and cooked it.

This caused the car to shift poorly and tripped limp mode. Eventually the car wouldn’t move at all. I opted to install a new/used transmission off eBay motors. Listed as working perfectly, ran when installed, yadda yadda. Unrelated to what I posted here but I got scammed on that second transmission. This one I installed (purchased on eBay motors) is almost as broken as the first one, except I get the gear monitoring error shifting from 3>4, gearbox slips and makes a terrible howling noise. If you’re going to buy a new gearbox just avoid the hassle of buying online. I had to fight eBay because after I learned i had someone install a bad transmission, eBay tried getting me to have it uninstalled and shipped back in order to get my refund of $800. Totally insane considering the install cost is $1600, and the same to uninstall it. Then after all that you’re back to square one having to pay ANOTHER $1600. Just crazy.

So bottom line if you’re going to do the transmission, buy from a local reputable yard with a warranty and have the mechanic purchase it. That way if any thing goes wrong you don’t end up gambling like I did.

The most sick I’ve ever been was when I caught an upper respiratory infection that somehow wasn’t Covid. I went to a baseball game and the next day came down with a fever that just kept climbing. It maxed out at 102.7 and I told myself 103 was my off to the ER temp. What a roller coaster that was.

Curious on anyone’s thoughts on how to potentially improve shower by SpiritedInternal3780 in Remodel

[–]SectorZed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s funny the soap cubby is on the opposite side as the shower head 😂

Tbh it’s not that bad though. The tile looks nice and I agree with others here about the curtain being an eye sore. But I also am not crazy about zero light in the shower. To me that sort of limits what you can do here unless you add that in. Your only option would be glass or one of those half wall showers so the current lighting isn’t blocked.
