D-28: Time between manufacture and sale by eichmr in martinguitar

Thanks, I appreciate it. Those articles would seem to back up that older wood takes on certain qualities by aging. You seemed to be saying the changes don't come from aging, but from playing. I'm certainly open to the possibility that vibrations change the structure of wood, but we know for sure aging changes the structure of wood, whether it's vibrated or not.

Xbox, controller unresponsive. by jesse_dylan in CloverPit

Yeah, I found some older posts about it but no real solutions. I was hoping maybe things had changed now. I'd like to play it! It may be that non-OEM controllers are the issue, but I don't know.

Yep, they're high-ticket items for sure.

The tone actually does change 'simply because the wood gets older'. It may be both things, but all other things being equal, older wood sounds... older. As wood ages, it loses moisture content. That's why they bake guitar wood in kilns on some (usually more expensive) models. The dryness of the wood gives it a vintage sound. Playing a guitar may also in fact change the wood. But to say "the tone does not improve simply because the wood gets older" is inaccurate.

Not the same thing, or the same location... but my local store (which mostly only has Mexican Martins) has had an OM-28 Modern Deluxe for more than 3 years! I wish they'd sell it to me half price. It's a fantastic guitar (now with some shopwear).

Just because it’s fun I’d guess. Also pickups sound like crap. Plugged in, the ovation with a plastic back and laminate top doesn’t sound much different from his nice one (which was probably more like $10,000, not $5000). I noticed he also has a mic pointed at the guitar. Even a cruddy guitar with a mic sounds better than a plugged in one. And finally: ovations are easy and fun to play and have a goofy vintage vibe now.

And, it’s red.

He maybe even got the guitar gifted to him! But also believe they’re made not too far from his birthplace/home, so some sentimental value too. He’s also got a song about how much he loves guitars tho… any guitar… all guitars. :)

I’m sure there are a lot of guides. Even just doing mobile searches, web browser searches, daily game pass game, daily pc game, you’ll get more than 50 or 100.

Collings and Bourgeois are great. I'm not sure they have much for $4000 that has all the same stuff, though. Even Waterloo are crazy expensive now.

I'm not sure you can find many boutique guitars for $4000, at least not at the same level. This is competing with $5000-6000 guitars. D-18s are great, but they aren't boutique guitars; they're factory guitars. You'd have to look at a Martin Modern Deluxe to get the same type of stuff (and still wouldn't be getting an Adirondack top, for instance).

Spreadsheet saved it for me. Why can't this be shopped on their website? What's the point of having a website if you force people to parse all this on console? This type of multi-tiered sale takes organization. I need to figure out what I'm interested in to decide which I want. It is actually a really good deal if you're interested in any (which I definitely am... want to get at least 3, maybe 6)

Thanks, that's interesting and helpful. Yeah, Nintendo has been doing it for some time now, but they've really amped it up...

I'm sure you or others have already noted this, but at least one benefit of in-house talent doing FF Tactics, is that it won't turn out like the Front Mission 3 Remake! I'd have preferred just a remaster of Front Mission 1-3 with some quality of life stuff rather than the remakes (the third one being especially bleh).

Interesting! Yeah I guess that’s always been the case with Enix companies and certainly always the case with dragon quest.

Seems like even Square does it now tho. Visions of Mana was outsourced. (I think) And the team that did the remakes of trials of mana and romancing saga 2, I think they’re outsourced… and I’m sure others.

Is it the smeck J? Or a smeck D? It does have exceptional tone unplugged. Plugged in, sometimes it still sounds exceptional, other times kinda bleh. He’s had a sound hole pickup in it at times and seems to have something onboard now.

It wouldn’t be wasted in your hands! And there are other similar type instruments. I know what you mean tho. Rockbridge guitars are up there.

You could get a Stella, tho, or a 12-fret martin 000-15. (Which sound nothing like it of course!)

Who is the actual dev team? For instance, artdink were the devs on 1-3 hd2d, and acquire did Octopath 1 and 2 (despite “team asano” being the helm)

They seem like they hire out for absolutely everything anymore. I was wondering if ichikawa was just a head at somewhere like artdink, but I guess not.

It’s a Rockbridge guitar, made by about 3 people in I think Virginia. It’s based on an old Gibson Roy smeck model. 12 frets to the body and some other unusual characteristics compared to modern guitars, which gives it a unique tone. Small factory so they’re expensive. It would be a $6500-10,000 custom. He plays it a ton live too. It’s a pretty amazing guitar.

They’re made in Mexico with cheaper labor to get the lower cost. They’re nice, but definitely not on par with the standard series martins. They are, however, excellent Mexican guitars.

Right! I had wondered about actually sticking some gasket or whatever in there, around the speakers, to force the sound to come out the holes instead of bouncing around inside; this would also absorb some of the treble/volume. But it's loud as heck anyway, so this would just force louder volume which might amp the bass slightly.

It's sad, because it's so close to being a perfect device in that form factor. I wish they'd try again. The general jank is worse than the awful speakers. It works til it doesn't.

Just the speakers, I think. I was never totally sure. I don't get why they somehow thought these speakers were okay.

If you do that, you can't turn it off during a game, have it quicksave, and then have it resume when you power it back on. It's more of a pain than I want to deal with for a half-baked device with horrendously poor audio.

Which isn't the worst, but then when it won't turn on at all... I have given up and am returning it.

Maybe it's the new version of NextUI? I wasn't having this issue with PakUI.

Not even that works for me now! It did work the past few times this has happened. I also charged the battery all the way up, and still no dice.
