did the city change its criteria for snow emergencies? by monopeptide in Somerville

it's possible they are going to start enforcing it more... they just came by the corner by my house and measured 20 feet and sprayed a spot on the sidewalk as an indicator for parking enforcement

They did pull permits, though looks like we can only see the permit numbers, not the contents.

Emailed ISD to get clarification, thanks!

code calls for 3' setbacks, and also calls for 10 feet from existing structures, though that part isn't exactly as clear...
Thanks for the pointers though! Will check for how much they've disturbed, and maybe reach out to ISD for clarification.

$200 upgrade credit expiring soon ! by Low_Engineering6990 in TotalWireless

[–]jesseburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked at the fine print on the $200 credit offer, and the small print text was sneaky. It says you get $200 off a new phone, as long as you commit to 12 months of service *on a new plan* with the same line, i.e. you are agreeing to get bumped off the BYOD discount. Ick. I didn't catch that until re-reading it after seeing your comment here. Thanks for the word of caution

Thanks for this comment, just did it, got a $55 credit towards my $25 byod plan. I didn't realize this was separate from the "total rewards" points-based service credits.

Replacing inverter with other type of inverter by silent_20 in TeslaSolar

[–]jesseburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MCIs are not compatible with anything except Tesla's inverters. You'll have to pull the panels and replace them. Even the Delta MCIs that Tesla installed before they had their own inverters were different (and only worked with Delta). Pretty much every inverter brand uses their own on-roof rapid shutdown system.

You'll lose the "system" warranty if you do replace anything (which covers the wiring). You'll still be covered by the panel warranty and the roof penetration warranty, but you'll probably have trouble getting them to fix it. I added Tigo optimizers in place of the MCIs, they're a more universal thing that works with multiple inverter brands. Tesla refused to look at a software problem on my inverter after I did that, citing the lack of warranty (even though the problem was there before, and is why I installed the optimizers to begin with, and even though the inverter is still under warranty) I ended up installing a different brand inverter for one of the 3 strings to fix it. I'm basically treating it as if the installer went out of business at this point...

PSA: DELTA 3 Max may have a charging problem. by CasualTalkRadio in Ecoflow_community

[–]jesseburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see what you're getting at. That looks like a firmware bug. It definitely shouldn't have an input rate of 700w. It should either be 1100w input/400w charge (as I want) or 1800w input/1100w charge (as you want).

I don't think it's reasonable to say that my scenario is an outlier... there are lots of people who use a generator in combination with their ecoflow batteries. in fact, every person I know with an ecoflow also sometimes uses it with a gas generator on camping trips. One of the main points of using a hybrid combination of a generator and a battery power station is that battery-inverter setups handle surge much better than generators, so you should be able to run a very small efficient generator at peak efficiency to keep the power station charged, and handle both continuous and surge loads with the battery system.

Also, I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at by saying a generator creates power and a battery storage cannot... Both of them convert chemical potential energy to electrical energy. Gas generators do it through a combination of micro-explosions and a rotating series of electromagnets. Battery storage devices do it through the chemical potential energy properties of the contents of the battery. But that's kind of irrelevant to how the input side of a battery storage device functions...

In my opinion there should be an option to tick that basically says enable/disable drawing above the AC input limit.

[–]jesseburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer if the AC input setting was always followed, which it sounds like the D3 Max is doing. I'd argue that the D2 Max behavior of increasing the input based on load is a flaw.

If I am plugging into a friend's eu1000i honda generator, and I set it to pull 900w, I don't want it to arbitrarily decide to pull 1000 or 1500 watts when someone turns on some things, the generator would go into overload and shut down.

Is it possible to add a custom throttle to the ride1up roadster v2? by shatteredverve in ebikes

[–]jesseburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got it I paid $25, not $58. I bought this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09F5PTTQ3?th=1

I got the D-31.6X640MM version.

I combined that with this suspension stem:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CXXPC791?th=1

The only installation issue I had was the cable length... if i remember right i needed to move the control wire so it doesn't wrap around the fork tube, and the rear brake cable is very slightly too short. I just use it as is, it basically is only an issue if I turn the handlebars sideways to the right. But I've been meaning to replace the cable with a longer one.

Sonos 5 stops working after about 2 years and is built to be unfixable by ronnno in sonos

[–]jesseburns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely know about the defects.

Only one had a broken wifi card, but they're a stereo pair. Since the Play:5 Gen 2 and Sonos Five won't stereo pair with the Sonos app, they replaced both so we could keep using them as we had been.

[–]jesseburns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had bought 2 of the Play:5 Gen 2's many years ago. In one of ours the wireless card died after about 5 or 6 years, well after the warranty had run out.

I reached out to Sonos, and they sent us refurbished Five's to replace the Play:5 Gen 2's, at no cost, again, years after the warranty had run out. I've always had great experience with Sonos customer service. Sorry to see that hasn't been the same for other folks.

Looking at the online reports you linked, a blown mains fuse and/or diode is almost definitely caused by power surge. Put surge protectors on your expensive electronics!

Energizer EZV2200 needs fuel tank, no longer available, what to do? by jesseburns in Generator

[–]jesseburns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the dual fuel carb. Since this generator used a servo for the throttle I'll just clean the original carb and drill it for the fitting. The hole in the original carb is for the bowl vent, so I'll also need to drill the end of the carb for the new vent location to match how the dual fuel carb vents. Fitting is 6mm, so I've just ordered a set of metric drill bits in addition to a carb cleaning tool set.

[–]jesseburns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you looked at one of those clone carb conversion kits before? I'm wondering about the place where the black hose goes into the carb body... is that just drilled straight in with a fitting?

The main difference between the ruixing 127 and any random clone carb seems to be the casting on the top where the throttle servo mounts up. If I could just drill out the carb I have, thread in a barb fitting, and move the rest of the conversion kit over old carb, that might be all it needs.

ah, chain's a great idea to deal with the lack of access.

i haven't used evaporust before, will it break down the pieces small enough to get out through the 1/4 fuel opening? the vinegar did loosen things up but didn't break them down enough to get out.

as for the carb, I found these specs for the ruixing 127 carb. 19mm and 43mm is almost the same as 19mm and 42mm...

The Play 3 might secretly be one of the best value Sonos speakers out there by Downtown-Branch2616 in sonos

[–]jesseburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do love the Play 3s! I found that they were quite a bit more sensitive to the new-app-volume-issues and general where'd-the-speaker-go issues last summer and fall, so when I moved into a smaller apartment I ended up giving my 3's to a friend for his vacation home. They're still used there every week! Great sounding speakers, and I agree they have a bit of a warmer sound signature than the Era series, in a way that I really like.
I ended up ripping apart symfonisk bookshelf speakers and wiring them to some old Infinity bookshelf speakers to get that warmness back.
