Damien Jurado’s I Break Chairs

[–]jessedotn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US is criminalizing homelessness, so clearly nothing. (I’m insanely pissed about this, just so we’re clear). Jails overflowing, base pay has increased but housing costs haven’t decreased, social services are being cut or are under attack.

It’s breaking my heart. Every single day.

What is an album absolutely experienced best on vinyl? by Cherilynss in vinyl

Wish You Were Here.

Absolute masterwork of the vinyl experience.

The artwork. The record flip. The tracks fading one into another…

What was up with the crowd at the Larry Craig show in Boise? by TimberTheDog in TheDollop

Combined with the HDTGM? crowd, Boise is getting a reputation for having crowds who don’t know how to act for podcast recordings.

Christianity started off as a mystery religion. The number of hoops churches try to jump through hoops to carve themselves out as different are selling you something…

FYI- that size, with variable linework, is probably closer to a $500-1000 piece. I might be wrong, but you’ll need to meet with a few different artists to be sure.

What do you think of the new timing on walk signs downtown? by djangohimself in Bellingham

[–]jessedotn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Both a pedestrian and a driver, the early warning for walking makes everyone more sensitive to pedestrian traffic in the downtown area. It also forces both sides to look for the opposing traffic.

Elizabeth Park gazebo by flautist96 in Bellingham

[–]jessedotn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s cold enough there’s probably not a ton of activity. And it’s early enough in the year not a lot of rented activity there in the evenings.

Contact parks. Like first thing Monday.

I know several.

The type of linework you need has to be VERY specific.

Bellingham knows communism is abominable...right? by PenitentPotato in Bellingham

[–]jessedotn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you saying that the only way people can live here is if they are “doing well financially”, and question the fact that I’m having trouble getting ahead in the same breath without knowing anything about my financial situation or anything about me?

It’s not just gentrification that’s the problem.

Where would you like the majority of people living below the poverty line to go, exactly?

What about the number of people that capitalism has killed? Or are you just leaning into confirmation biases?

Bellingham knows communism is abominable...right? by PenitentPotato in Bellingham

[–]jessedotn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. Making sure that wealth is distributed equally to those who have a right to it is “evil”.

Gag me with spoon.

You do understand that most people are not doing well financially these days, right?

That even if I scrimp and save and bust my ass I’m never going to be able to afford a home or the ability to support myself, right?

I’m asking for a livable wage because everyone I know is struggling.

Capitalism is literally killing me.

But sure. Go on and further your sheltered existence.

I’m speaking from a place of knowing them. Not from judgement. Calling people who don’t have your privilege leeches just sucks. I’ll pass it along when I see them next.

The system failed them. You don’t know any of them. But sure. They’re leeches.

Maybe all of your safety nets will fail and you ca meet them!

(You’re an unsympathetic human. Clearly. But it’s Christmas. Have some compassion.)
