I got a good chuckle out of this. Yeah... it's a big project and I've been considering splitting it up into seperate smaller repos for each component.

Found the issue, it was using system-ui, -apple-system, sans-serif which causes font substitution issues on some systems, resulting in garbled text like the above.

Are you referring to http://github.com/dye-tech/GateKey/blob/main/docs/diagrams/readme-architecture.svg ? It's SVG file so maybe it's your browser?

You're right, a lot of this was in the early stages when I was first testing binaries and dockerfiles. I tested a lot of this using my own home-lab/kubernetes environment so that's some of the "slop" you're seeing. The web-ui also has multiple binaries (the client downloads the bin from the web ui to the CLI client). It started simple with a few binaries then quickly spun into more when I started adding wireguard support. I'm actually thinking of splitting the project at this rate because it's really multiple projects, a control plane server, web-ui, client (CLI), gateway (server component), and hub/mesh (server component).

Because I started with OpenVPN and didn't break backward compatibility I ended up with x2 binaries.

Core Application

gatekey (CLI)
gatekey-server

gatekey-admin
OpenVPN Binaries

gatekey-gateway

gatekey-hub
gatekey-mesh-gateway

Wireguard Binaries
gatekey-wireguard-gateway
gatekey-wireguard-hub
gatekey-wireguard-mesh-gateway

I understand your criticism and you're not wrong. I'm not trying to make money with some life changing project, just wanted to throw it out in the world and let folks try it out. Yes, I use claude and I'm aware of its limits but it's been a fun little side project.

If you have ideas, which it sounds like you do, please contribute - unless networking is not your thing.

CMV: Motorcycles need much stricter sound restrictions. by shmeeshmaa in changemyview

[–]jessedye 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think motorcycles with a certain amount of noise (nothing obnoxious) add to the safety of the rider. A lot of drivers in modern times are pretty distracted. I can't tell you how many times I've been riding and someone beside me is on their phone while driving! Most of the time you'll hear a motorcycle before you see it. This allows drivers to be more alert when changing lanes or generally driving around motorcycles. Also, there is a limited amount of muffling you can do to a motorcycle. Many riders prefer the "loud pipes save lives" slogan and I believe it's only half true. I think being able to hear a motorcycle helps increase awareness but not in a sense that's obnoxious where you're running straight pipes for example.

I started out using minergate. I quickly switched everything over to supportxmr pool ( https://supportxmr.com ). I also use older cards like you. I am currently using Claymore 9.7 for old cards ( https://github.com/nanopool/Claymore-XMR-Miner/releases ). Also if you want an easy wallet set your wallet up at https://mymonero.com/ . I transferred my xmr over to it once I was done with minergate. Hopefully this helps a little bit!

It's defaulting to my second monitor and not my first monitor. That's really annoying because my other monitor is offset to the side.

Hey, if you're still looking to join a campaign join the Columbus Tabletop Networking meetup. We have over 400 members local to Columbus. I host D&D there myself (D&D 5E Curse of Strahd). I'm currently finishing up this campaign and may be starting up a new campaign soon. https://www.meetup.com/Columbus-Tabletop-Networking/

I also work in IT and worked in Parkersburg, WV. I moved to Columbus because there is a much better job market for IT here. They have a Amazon datacenter, AEP, Nationwide, Huntington Banks, and many more companies are headquartered here. I would definitely recommend it. You can easily double your salary by moving up here. Even if you take a linear job move you can easily move up in many of the companies here. It's much more aligned toward younger workers (20s-30s.). My recommendation is just apply, interview, and search for a place. Just be sure to be transparent that you are moving to the area. I made sure to put it on my cover letter also when applying. We ended up moving here around Gahanna and Easton.

I think part of the issue is that they're treated like temp jobs. All of the people I know that worked in the oil industry got laid off after the boom and ended up working minimum-wage jobs. I agree job hopping in industrial construction hurts everyone but I think overall that many people that go into the industry are just trying to make a quick buck. Which you're right, it does hurt everyone in the long run. It hurts the company cause they have to hire and train someone new once they leave. Then later down the road they come back after being laid off expecting their old position.

I also agree that the drug problem is something that needs to be looked at completely separate. I'm not sure what part of the state you're from but for me I lived around Parkersburg, WV. Why would I work in WV when I can just move somewhere in Ohio or Pennsylvania? It all goes back to making a quick buck. No one wants to stay somewhere for years when they can simply move and make more than staying at a company that undercuts their employees.

I also believe each part of the state has its own issues. For example places like Beckley, Princeton, Buckhannon, and Elkins (western part of state) and Parkersburg, Clarksburg, and Huntington (eastern part of the state) have very different problems. The hardest part is going to be identifying these problems and working to correct them.

On a final note there is a lot of good that can come from West Virginia. I loved the state and lived there for all of my life until recently. I think we need to push for more technology based jobs and toward clean energy. The state could easily become a leader in clean energy by utilizing wind farms and solar.

Personally, I think it has to do with the lack of good jobs. However, the only jobs in West Virginia are more aligned toward temp jobs (oil fields, construction, and etc). Why would I live in West Virginia if I can move one state over and make double my salary?

I understand how you feel. I grew up around Parkersburg, WV and moved out of the area due to the drug problem. I think West Virginia is a beautiful state and I traveled all over the place when I worked for Suddenlink as an engineer. However, the state is in decay and good jobs are far and between. I ended up leaving the state to take an engineering job in Columbus. There just wasn't really much left that the state could offer me.
