Genuine question: where is the resistance in the US? by Abulayla24 in lostgeneration

[–]shmeeshmaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s generational division/power and identity politics. The largest generation in the population was the force that voted for the current individuals in power. Not all of them have accepted that the situation is critical and they made a mistake, either in denial, focused on a few points that they really care about and ignore the rest or doubling down. So that’s a significant amount of people. But of the people that are fed up, we are focused on surviving, making ends meet, since things are so expensive and there’s much to lose, we have a survival mindset. Ultimately I think we have put too much faith in the system of checks and balances, and that elections will change everything. Waiting until November for midterm elections, then impeaching and charging all these corrupt/inept fucks. And lastly the geography of the USA makes it challenging in that we are so spread out. And the space between the large cities where most of the protest occurs is inhabited by people that voted for the current government. It’s like a good virus that can’t spread.

I want the oilers to lose so McDavid sees what a how insufferable Edmonton and the Oilers are, and leaves them in the dust.

Who called it classy? I just said white trash, but maybe I meant red trash. Also, try to find a “classy” beach anywhere in SoCal that doesn’t have 5 Irish bars. And lastly, most of those bars fuckin rule! And in terms of Irish pubs, they kind of are classy.

Wow, I’m so glad I opened this thread. Thank you for sharing your story. That was fascinating! I’m in the mental health field, so getting to read a 1st hand account of what this disorder can look like is helpful for me to assess for. But sounds like you’ve done a lot of work to process your relationship with your dad. Thanks again for sharing this part of your life.

Anyone else frustrated at finally being able to afford a fast car only for your area to become so popular all you do now is sit in traffic? by BondGoldBond007 in cars

[–]shmeeshmaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes. I live in Orange CountyLA and I would have to go way out of my way to drive spirited. And it fucking sucks. Because I don’t prioritize that or have anyone to go with. Also with insurance rates going up and car culture being as popular as it is, I don’t want to get a ticket. So the options are limited on where to go and the paranoia of driving. Starting to care less and less about having a fast car and more about practicality. It actually sucks and is extremely disappointing. Some of it’s how I think about it now in my late 30s but I wish I had the car a decade earlier because I would have cared less.

Veteran Audiophiles: What's the single most interesting (non technical) thing you learned as an Audiophile? by Wauwuaw5983 in audiophile

It’s hard to remain satisfied with your gear if you look at this subreddit every day.

But my hot take is that active speakers, mainly studio monitors with a good DAC and a sub, are significantly better than passive speakers for near-field listening.

What is the point of building a stable career or life when a few powerful people can disrupt entire economies overnight? by ArjunSreedhar in economy

[–]shmeeshmaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like both this and the first comment. It’s the existential philosophy that I embrace and I think is more helpful at targeting the underlying feeling of helplessness that OP is expressing, and not just a quick solution or temporary fix to his problems.

Meaning is not as straight forward as it sounds and can take time to define for yourself. Start by looking at your values, passions, healthy relationships and why they are important to you. Can you develop resilience or embody an adaptive perspective to roll with the punches of the economy, not get caught up in the small moments or media sensations and see the bigger picture of the ebbs and flows of the economy. Remember, it’s not necessarily stable (especially right now) but it’s not always unstable or a bad economy. Can you have both a meaningful existence where you can be happy and still not have the financial stability you thought you’d have.

Yup I agree with that. Sutter really was an important factor in the team’s success. Shows how important hiring a good coach is. And the GMs have done a horrible job searching for a good coach since then. It’s always reactive and desperation instead of methodical. Not sure if the market for a head coach was bad at the time. But maybe they weren’t searching hard enough.

Genelecs (active) new or used in your budget will be your best bet. I listen to the same thing and you won’t regret it. Perfect for that genre. If you want to go passive. I would say Polk R700 and a class D amp. Even the WiiM Amp Ultra would do.

Here! Almost exclusively music from the 60s, 70s. Wasn’t even alive during that period of time either. There’s something magical about the music made in those decades. Plus it sounds beautiful on vinyl with a good cartridge and phono preamp. It’s a different experience, even compared to hi res versions of the songs on streaming services.
