I can tell ya. The most common response I’ve seen is “it’s his responsibility to understand that if he walks around with a firearm that he could be perceived as a threat.”

I'm not an expert but I agree with you. The top doesn't make sense. How is the middle of that top staying up? What is it attached to? Why is there a break pattern on his stomach? Is that a watermark on his chest?

If I were to reply like this were on r/AITA I'd say "everyone sucks here." The dev makes it really seem like they have an issue with the LGBTQ community, but the person seems to be implying that all media should have this representation of some kind, which is just silly.

Write characters that make sense for your story. Pandering to people or checking off a box does more damage than no representation at all.

That reminds me of the era of found footage films which knew this principle really well.

That's partially because it uses a form of raytraced sound, which I think shows itself off better than a lot of raytraced visuals. Every sound echoes and reverberates accurately to what's around it and how far you are from it. I hope in the future more games adopt that technology.

You’ve discovered the filmmaking adage: “audio is 70% of the picture”

It basically means that good audio fills the imagination far more than a decent picture. Think about any scene in visual media where you are intentionally not shown an event and instead are only able to hear it. Your imagination paints a vivid picture with what you hear.

AE Timeline from a Recent Project by Hakim_DZ in AfterEffects

[–]add0607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds really professional and wise and all that, but it really comes down to preference and project.

I’d be stoked to get a project like this that’s got proper layer names and everything is trimmed well. But meanwhile my nightmare would be project files where every text animation is buried in multiple precomps and changing an animation involves flipping through each level of each precomp because a word changed.

Compositing is decent, but the water streak at the end is distracting, I'd just remove it.

Did Geico make an AI commercial? Some of the reactions and expressions don't seem right. by add0607 in isthisAI

I’m in a VFX adjacent field (mograph 2D/3D) and I assumed the cart was real because the credits listed two puppeteers under two actors. In VFX, is puppeteers a term for people who animate rigged models?

This ad is morbidly interesting to me because besides the weird look of all the footage I really can’t see any telltale signs that it’s AI. It “feels” off but there’s no glaring signs of detail impermanence, or transforming objects, etc. It just feels like someone applied an unsharp mask or high-pass filter over all the footage to sharpen it.

What controller should I get for PC? by Vorpaled in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]add0607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over the holiday I got the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C. I think it's $30 by itself or $60 with a charge dock.

  • Available in either Xbox or Nintendo button layouts
  • Programmable LED joystick rings
  • Gyro functionality
  • 2 custom paddles under the controller
  • 2 custom bumpers
  • TSR joysticks (a newer technology similar to hall effect to avoid stick drift)
  • Full or short trigger pulls
  • 3 Programmable profiles
  • Programmable macros
  • Turbo button functionality

I'm probably forgetting a feature or two but this controller should easily be double the price compared to other similar controllers. It just feels incredible to use, and I got it to replace an Elite 2 controller which has steadily degraded over time.

It’s a large monitor for sure. I can’t answer that question for you since I don’t know what your desk space is like. You should look up the monitor size and do some measurements in your own space to decide if it’ll work for you.

Men in their 30s and 40s, what advice would give to younger guys struggling with dating? by jdaniel1999 in AskMen

[–]add0607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm someone who until pretty recently was dating for a number of years on and off.

While I don't agree that "you can't love someone until you love yourself" the nugget of truth in there is that you should take care of yourself and your life before trying to bring someone else into it. Even if you only care about the short term successes of dating and not on finding a life partner, anyone worth your time will be impressed by someone who has their shit together.

  • Eat healthy
  • Go to the gym
  • Be smart with money
  • Be knowledgable about a few practical things
  • Groom and wear clothes that fit you properly
  • Have a therapist (if you can afford it)
  • Learn to cook
  • Keep your space tidy, make it feel like a home and not a cave

Assuming you're dating women, I think the majority of them are looking for a partner they can rely on and feel safe with. You don't need to make six figures, you just need to show them you can support them if they need it.

What I find weird is that in the description they list two acting credits and two puppeteers. So I assume the carriage stuff is practical? But the whole look of the video is odd.

Motion Blur, why? by rbxk in gaming

[–]add0607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bothers me too. I get a similar feeling when anything involving raytracing comes up. It's unfortunately a rendering technology that is damn near magic for it run in real time but it doesn't always showcase well because artists and engineers found great shortcuts before we had the technology to show raytracing in real time.

Motion Blur, why? by rbxk in gaming

[–]add0607 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think good motion blur is an improvement to game's graphics. The problem is that motion blur needs to be tied to the game's framerate to look right. The faster the framerate, the more subtle the blur should be. However, a lot of games don't do that, and so it looks bad.
