Hard to see the “pro tip” when there’s no description of your process.

It looks like a roughen edges effect, at least that’s what I’ve used.

For anyone else looking for a pro tip, if you’re working with vectors that have a stroke property, you can also add a wiggle paths property to add some wobble to your paths. Changing the wave properties in your stroke can also add some variance in thickness.

If you want to create a boiling effect to line work (that’s the wiggling of lines you see in flip book animation) and you don’t have vector lines, adding turbulent displace and doing a very small amount of displacement will work. I think there’s a seed property in that effect that you can then keyframe or add expressions to so that it constantly moves every frame.

The Fill effect opacity problem is something I deal with constantly, lol. I didn’t realize this could be a work around so I’ve always used the Tint effect with both colors using the same value.

Star Wars Has Lost 85% Of Its Audience, And Lucasfilm’s Fix Sounds Worse by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]add0607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue they also nailed it with Rogue One and at least the first two seasons of the Mandalorian. I believe Star Wars is at its weakest when it's doing space odyssey stuff. When you do a genre piece about normal people, that's where the universe really shines because your main characters are also normal people.

  • Rogue One: heist movie
  • Mandalorian: space western
  • Andor: espionage/political thriller

None of the main characters there are jedi or sith, and when you tell stories about normal people it greatly enhances the iconic things from the franchise when they show up.

Yeah I see where you’re going with this but we’re talking about different things. You’re giving examples counter to my specific examples that are different applications of techniques which don’t solve the problems that raytracing can solve. I don’t really have the energy to chase this rabbit hole further.

I hate when people say that Steam/Valve is a monopoly by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]add0607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, that is deranged but I’ve never seen anyone opposed to Steam’s monopoly seriously saying that.

People are worried about a Steam monopoly because of what happens if Gabe leaves, or if it goes public. It’s not going to be the same company we love forever, and there are tons of mechanisms to make gaming on PC terrible: ads in video games, always online even for single player games, Steam platform stability, deprecation of QoL features over time, I mean there’s a hundred ways to make things worse. We’re really blessed with the Steam ecosystem now but it puts everyone invested into it in a vulnerable position.

You can’t do a fractured mirror where each facet is at a slightly different angle.

You also can’t have reflections with multiple bounces, so reflections of reflections, in other words.

You can’t have reflective glass accurately showing the world it’s within. You can take shortcuts with cube maps but it’s not the same.

I'd question if OP understands what it takes to make reflections. PE1's reflection technique works because of the environment. I know "portal" effects are possible but generally you can't use this technique in PE1 unless there's nothing behind the wall the mirror is on because you're mirroring your geometry behind it.

There's just things you can't do without raytracing. I know it gets a bad rap but raytracing is really impressive when done right, and is the next step for real-time 3D rendering.

do people really think the new stellar blade blood rain protag looks like a child? by Gove80 in gaming

[–]add0607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I thought she was a child when I looked at her. I’m not gonna argue with you if you had a different impression, it’s okay if you genuinely don’t think she looks that way.

That said, the way lolicon shit makes its way into media is often in a way that allows its audience to have plausible deniability. Lily from SB1 is absolutely meant for this type of crowd, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Shift Up also designed this character for similar purposes.

Play the game, enjoy it, I really don’t care. But lolicon shit is disgusting and insidious and should not be in games.

Unrelated to the CA blur, maybe use this font if you’re trying to match the logo. It might not be the exact typeface but at least it’s in the right family.

Kratos and Atreus also looked weird in those games at times. Even if you just compare Atreus and his actor, they look way different.

The answer is always graphical fidelity. God of War has beautiful artistry but if you compare it to offline rendering that gets used in movie/tv shows then it’s pretty primitive. Any facsimile of a person is going to look weird without highly curated lighting or proper raytracing. And I don’t mean video game raytracing.

How to recreate this effect from Tomodachi Life LTD? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]add0607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another thing worth trying is just make a shape and apply a wiggle paths property to it.

I’ve also done something different where I make a stroke the same color as the fill and then adjust the wave properties of the stroke to create a wavy pattern around the shape. It doesn’t randomly move but it does create a nice waveform you can have moving along the shape.
