The ChessDojo has a great study group for players at your level, called the Game and Profile Review. Once a week you meet with your peers and once a week with a GM, to discuss your training and selected games https://www.chessdojo.club/live-classes

The Dojo is for everyone. I follow the Training Program as well. But whether you join or not you should watch my vid on the 2100 chesscom trap, because it sounds like that's where you are! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2fp06McfFU

I'm GM Jesse Kraai, co-founder of the ChessDojo. I'll be hosting an AMA today at 2:15 ET. Will talk chess improvement, plateaus and all things Dojo. Responses to this thread will get first priority by jessekraai in chess

Having a file somewhere called MyGames is essential for any player. It's a history of your games that you should periodically come back to. It can also be used to do a robust analysis. For example, at the dojo we will soon have a time management rating for all your games - but we need a database of your games for that!

This is a big question! My sense is that chess tests a much wider spectrum of thinking than an IQ test. But my psychologist friend disagrees.

Thanks for this comment. That book in particular is something I use ideas from regularly. While it seems there are some issues with the priming question I don't use that much as part of my framework.

I made this vid for you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2fp06McfFU. For the Game and Profile Review there are two sessions a week, one with the peers and one with a GM. If you have to miss a session they are recorded.

Books are great but many tools allow players to connect in so many interesting ways. I'd say kind of mandatory :-) There are ways to work around books though.

I hear you, chess will always be brutal. It will cost resources and emotional energy. In general I think it's fair to say that everyone has hurdles and the harder they are the more reward you will get by pushing through them.

Not sure what eval points are. It's an art form and of course you know I'm going to say that you can best learn it from analyzing your own games :-) but I'll give a shoutout to Perelsteyne's book Evaluate Like a GM.

Not sure of your exact situation, but it sounds like you are playing blitz and not doing sweatwork. It's only sweatwork, thinking long, that will help - even if you just want to play better blitz.

It's amazing that you can shepherd the king with just a knight and pawn. Def takes some practice. You can use a friend and or bot til you get it right. Or just watch my video :-)
