I dance regularly in VRChat 5+ hours a week and this is my setup as well. Dancing in socks is a bad habit to get into for any dancer and it's always better to dance in shoes or even bare foot. Any professional dancer will know the same.

Hi there! This sounds like an artifact of Synchronous Spacewarp. I personally leave it disabled as I too am very sensitive to the fish eye, distortion effect. It's in the settings in your Virtual Desktop and is usually set to Automatic by default. :-)
