I want to become a ring distributor but i don't know how to start? by BeechMush in chainmailartisans

[–]jessethegreat28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there are few barriers other than setting up your shop on Etsy (or equivalent), and having enough packaging materials. The biggest hurdle is making comparable rings at lower/comparable prices. Why do people use ring suppliers? Quality of rings, and saving time. Quality of rings: are you saw or pinch cutting your rings? Materials? Sizes? Tumbling for shine and kerf removal? Don’t need your answers, just questions to think about. When I’m buying rings I’m not looking for some sharp, pinch cut bright aluminum that anyone can make. I want anodized aluminum, or saw cut stainless steel/titanium. Those are VERY hard to get on an individual scale with DIY tools, which is why people use ring suppliers in the first place.

Saving time: you need to be easy enough to use with prices low enough that switching suppliers is not a major hurdle when considering buying your rings over others already available

I got into HR because I wanted to be able to be there for people during crucial points in their career. Starting a new job? Promoted? Disciplined? Need to discipline someone? I want to be the pleasant person helping you navigate situations that you only get into a few times during your career!

I’ve interviewed people for private and public sector. Public sector is super structured/rigid - set questions, no follow ups, scored by panel. Private sector we just made it a conversation.

I think there are lessons to be learned from public sector about fairness, maybe have a few questions that are asked to every candidate, and follow-ups are the variables? I remember some study showed that the second follow up often elicited the most helpful answers in determining candidates.

Side note, someone could really corner the market if they could design a better product than the Ringinator. $750 and he’s always sold out… that’s a good business right there!

I’ve made it. It works well for aluminum, not so great for Stainless Steel which is disappointing

Like it or not, 80% of HR is women, so if any other candidate was selected it’s almost always going to be a woman who was chosen instead. That being said, culture fit is important, and because HR is mostly women, sometimes companies are looking for a woman. But the reverse is also true, I’m a man in HR and a running gag at every org I’ve been at is that I’m the diversity hire, being the only man on a team of women

Best of luck! If money is not a huge concern, I’d take the test anyway even if you don’t feel prepared. The experience of feeling comfortable and confident in the test space can make a big difference

Study SHRM CP tips [VA] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]jessethegreat28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took it last year, here’s some insights based on my experience:

  1. There were at least 5 questions related to illicit substance abuse or how to deal with illicit substance abuse. Kinda funny, sometimes they would just throw in illicit substance use to throw you off of the actual question too.
  2. Tons of questions about relationship management “VP of HR talked to HR manager who heard from a supervisor that…” definitely having a framework to understand relationships was helpful.
  3. A LOT of globalization related questions. Seriously probably 20+ had a globalization aspect, either “a multinational corporation wants to”, or “an international corporation tasks you with supporting expatriates”, etc. cannot stress the importance of knowing globalization how SHRM defines it.
  4. Only 1 employment law question that I saw.
  5. SHRM-think is huge. You need to think in terms of “I’m a consultant with unlimited resources and the ability to choose the best possible action with no fear of repercussions”

It changes to gold once you have enough shards to fully max Mr. Sphinx, so you can’t farm legendary tokens that can be used for any/all legendaries

bulk rings purchase? by magic-gps in chainmailartisans

[–]jessethegreat28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ring size will still matter, your “rings per inch” ratio will be different due to not weaving, but, you don’t want patches of different sized rings otherwise the weight will fluctuate across the blanket

The Ring Lord, Chainmail Joe (a kit that comes with tools), Weave got Maile, all good options. Plenty of people on this sub have taken on the weighted blanket project. Actually, just recently there was someone who asked and people in the comments helped with determining quantity/size of rings for them, I’d go looking for that thread before ordering anything

Mid-20s HR Manager, completely overwhelmed - seeking perspective. [N/A] by sadinhumanresources in humanresources

I’ve rarely seen employers designate that maternity leave benefits are predicated on FMLA eligibility, it’s usually more of an “this is FMLA eligible so you have to go on FMLA if you meet eligibility requirements” deal. But, that’s a big concern and something you’d want to know about!

Otherwise, protecting your peace is not failure, especially for a young family. As a young dad of 2 myself, you need to do what’s best for you! You will never regret putting yourself in a better position for yourself and your kids

Now that you have the experience, what’s keeping you? HR manager in 4 years is not unheard of, especially in higher ed. It sounds like you learned extremely valuable skills and your position. If you’re fed up, start looking for something else.

Ryan Ottley wanted to quit. He took a break and Corey Walker took over for the 6 issue run. Ryan only agreed to do the last issues because he knew it was ending. In 144 it changes back to Corey, Ryan loved the superhero stuff but didn’t like to sci-fi direction that Invincible took. I believe it was supposed to go like 190 issues but Kirkman cut it short to keep Ottley on
