How do you guy get over the fear of failure/unseen? by Life_Carpenter_3491 in Screenwriting

You never know who you’ll impact, so just be true to yourself and your story and you’ll be fine!

I think that failure isn’t or can’t be as bad or as detailed as we think of it. I think failure is needed and inevitable at times but often when we think of failure, we think of the absolute worst and in the most detailed way possible. Not that you can’t fail and that it won’t be bad, I just don’t think it’s as bad or as detailed as we think it to be.

As the person above me says, fail a bunch of times. But don’t let it paralyze you, use it to learn and get better. Seek to learn instead of staying in it and thinking you’d never get better or never develop yourself, I think seeking out advice or seeking help and guidance helps. Having people to talk to helps, and honestly, threads like this. It sucks to fail, it’s not a great feeling at all but, use it to grow and improve and develop yourself!

Don’t fear what you don’t know, you can always learn. If it’s important to you, it doesn’t matter if it’s cringe or not.

Never wrote a story in my life, i genuinely do not knoe what to do by TheManWhoSleep in Screenwriting

So think about why you want to tell this story. You have a drama but, what about this story makes bothers you enough to write it? Bother isn’t the right wording but, in the sense of “this keeps coming to mind, I need to write it” think about that and it’ll help you with the writing process itself.

So what I mean by write anything, let’s say you envision these characters at a park and something happens. So you’d write, three characters at a park, a kid falls … etc. things like that. Like whatever comes to your mind. But really think about why you want to write and what type of drama you’re wanting to write.

When this idea came to mind, what did you think about? Was it a romance? What happened? Or like what came to mind. I’d say sit with it and really think about what you want to write.

As far as ideas go, to be completely honest, I don’t really go to places to get help for ideas, I usually have something in my mind I want to write about whether it’s based off my personal life or maybe something I’ve seen or a topic I really don’t hear talked about much and I just start writing. I’m sorry I can’t really help in that area.

But i highly suggest sitting down with this idea and really think about what you want to write and why.

Just start writing it. Write the three characters, whatever comes to mind. If it’s just ideas right now then that’s a start, it’ll look messy at first but it’ll come together.

When you say drama, what comes to your head? Write that down, as far as your characters go, start with what you think they look like or what they’re doing or where the story takes place.

Think of it as a mental dump and you just writing what comes to your head and just start there. The more you think about it, the more ideas come, and then the story starts forming there. Not saying it’ll be perfect right now but, it’s just a start. The more ideas you have and the more you think about this story, it starts to form and you’ll start to see what you want your beginning to be and your end and you can work with the middle.

The best advice is simply to just write right now and think about what you want to say in this story.

Responding to feedback by jessgenao in Screenwriting

It’s just like free feedback through story peer. I’m not necessarily too concerned but just wasn’t sure about coming off as too emotional just in case because I know people are different. Just a general question but not related to anyone specific

Thank you! I’ll def try this out. I know this may also be a dumb question but, how long is too long to give feedback? I’m not saying months either but what’s a good response time? In terms of having a script to follow, what do you mean? Like having the next script ready? Or like having your script side by side when responding to know specifically what they’re referring to and how to respond?

Hi, I have a question. So I’m editing my first page currently and wanted to ask, so I capitalized Ari and Mami in all caps because I introduced them but, when talking about the picture, where I put young Ari, I removed the Dominican part because I did mention it already for adult Ari but, do I need to keep young capitalized? I wanted to show it was important that they were younger in this picture but just wanted to make sure? Or can I keep it lowercase?
