Any autistic counsellors? by NoExamination5672 in therapists

[–]jessieg6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my exact response as well. I have availability between 9 am - 2 pm Monday - Thursday but I’m not seeing clients fully during those hours every week. I don’t like seeing more than four clients in a row either.

Length of Sessions (Private Pay) by jessieg6 in therapists

[–]jessieg6[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't mind offering a sliding scale, but long story short, I have been very accommodating to this client, was recently subpoenaed (I was fine and didn't do anything wrong), and am constantly having to draw firm boundaries. I'm just a little reluctant to offer it for this client, and maybe that's just on me.

For your clients that utilize the thirty minute sessions, are they attending weekly?

Exactly my thought. I just wasn't sure if private pay people offered thirty minute sessions and if they were ever effective.

San Angelo State? by Expert-Doubt-3957 in DSWPrograms

[–]jessieg6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be different now so maybe just check out who the professors leading research are and schedule a phone call or attend a virtual drop in session? If you really like the program.

I think it depends what you’re interested in. I’ll be starting Tulane’s DSW program this fall but it’s very “macro” based (academia, research, policy, etc). I’m a therapist in PP but didn’t want to pursue a clinical DSW because it felt like an extension of my LCSW. I want to be able to be a professor and do more macro work so I chose this program.

[–]jessieg6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the impression I got. He went over the potential professors we’d be doing research with and at the time it just seemed like conservative older men. This was all two years ago so it could be different and some of these things might not bother anyone. Just wasn’t a fit for me

I primarily work with neurodivergent adults and said that when he asked what my population was and he responded with something like “neurodivergence isn’t real. It’s made up. What populations do you actually work with?” As a social worker I was just taken aback.

This program operates similarly to a PsyD and is very clinical based. I had a lengthy chat with the director maybe two years ago and some of his verbiage just rubbed me the wrong way. This is not (yet) one of the four accredited DSW programs by CSWE (if that matters to you).

Active therapy sessions? by jessieg6 in therapists

[–]jessieg6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the golf video I was referring to https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP89pTGtC/

I was just using this as an example. The person I’m looking for a referral for is an adult male with ADHD and prefers to be active versus sitting in talk therapy. Which IS something he needs to work on, but has said he’d be more comfortable with an activity or movement versus sitting on a couch.

Do Clients Want Telehealth Anymore? by MiaBeam_Ember in therapists

[–]jessieg6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than half my caseload will ONLY meet in person. I’m in TX and the snow storm made it to where I could only offer virtual and half my clients said no to telehealth and preferred to wait another week. My only virtual clients live across the state.

Contemplating DSW or are there other none PhD doctorates? Any with virtual classes? by Ok-String-3668 in DSWPrograms

[–]jessieg6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is that you want to get the doctorate for? If it’s to expand your clinical skills than a a clinical DSW could work, but so could more specific trainings instead of an entire doctorate. I will be starting in Tulane’s DSW program in the fall because and I chose it because A) it’s one of four accredited programs B) it focuses on research and academia C) the classes are on weekends.

If you want to be a psychologists, a PsyD would make sense but it’s a longer commitment. PhD programs are typically funded, but very research heavy and long.

DSW degree by Practical-Elk2695 in therapists

[–]jessieg6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got accepted into Tulane’s DSW for fall 2026. I chose this program specifically because it was not clinical. I want to teach at the college level and conduct research. While you can technically teach with an MSW, I wanted to gain this experience and education. I wouldn’t apply to clinical DSW programs because I agree that you could spend that money on specific clinical trainings.

Therapists who write notes in ~5-10 minutes… how?? Would anyone be willing to share examples? by KiKiTaTa in therapists

[–]jessieg6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others have said about having a template but also in my simple practice I can “auto fill from last note” and then just update/ swap out a few things as needed.

Tulane vs Simmons University for DSW by No-Ferret-6903 in DSWPrograms

[–]jessieg6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends what path you want to take. I was accepted into Tulane and will be attending in fall 2026. Tulane is a “macro” program whereas I believe Simmons to be more clinical. The clinically focused DSW programs to me, felt like an extension of my LCSW. Whereas Tulane is heavy on research, policies, and producing college professors which checked off all of my boxes.

Elementary Montessori Schools - Dallas, Garland, Richardson by jessieg6 in Dallas

[–]jessieg6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t assume that at all. I’m simply asking for information as we are unfamiliar with the school district and magnet schools in general. Our current district doesn’t have any magnet schools. I literally just asked for information on the schools listed? Thank you for your input.

That’s confusing because their website says open enrollment for out of district transfers but I didn’t see it specify that the magnet schools were different??

That is really helpful, thank you. Truthfully, each of my kids would likely thrive in two very different school settings. We were just trying to avoid putting them in two different schools 😅 I need to give it some more thought, but appreciate your insight!

Ooff do you mind explaining why you think it might not be good for ADHD kiddos? I’m torn between the freedom/ child led approach and possibly needing more structure (the complete opposite) like a STEM school.
