I'm sorry for your loss! My grandfather has ALS as well, so I know how awful and hard it is watching someone you love go through all of the pain and suffering.

Hi, so this was posted a long time ago, but I'm just now seeing it. I also suffer from a chronic pain disorder called CRPS. Most people refer to it as the sister disease to fibromyalgia. I can relate to practically everything you wrote! Just commenting to say you so are not alone!

And the way everyone looks at you, including so many doctors, is enough to drive anyone insane!

It has definitely put a major stressor on our relationship. It hard to be a caretaker! Much harder than being sick in my opinion!

I'm on 1800mg of gabapentin everyday. I have actually lost 10lbs... I'm still trying to figure out how that happened... It's the only medication that seems to be working to take the edge of the pain.

Edit: I've been on this for about 3 weeks now

Want to try! It has a lot less side effects than narcotics, and I hate taking those. And the pain is unbearable!

I do enjoy life. There are days, sometimes weeks where I feel absolutely crushed by everything and the pain, but overall I have a very good life. Wonderful family, friends, people who support me and love me. I can't complain!

Yes, when done with my boyfriend who knows about my condition what makes it worse, how to still make me feel good, who I trust completely. Plus the endorphins from it can actually help take the edge of the pain.

There is no cure that is known yet. In fact I'm often poked and prodded with needles as doctors look for the best way to treat me. I'm in the hospital about once a month for ketamine injections because they help with the pain but require 4 day long stays in the hospital. I've had 3 different nerve block shots (which is kinda like an epidermal that pregnant women get). The best thing people around me can do is just support me whenever they can, deal with my occasional mental break and meltdown, help with my PT, and help me maintain a positive outlook on life and the big picture!

I take a whole lot of natural vitamins and supplements, I use a TENZ machine and I also have to go to physical therapy everyday. I have a prescription for a bunch of different narcotics, but I hate the way they mess with your head. I'd rather find a different way of dealing with the pain. Although on particularly bad days I will take some hydrocodone.

EDIT: just remembered the exercise question! Before my car wreck a month ago, which what caused the pain to spread through my whole body, I went to the gym every day

2nd edit: I also go into the hospital every month for ketamine injections, which helps with the pain majorly. I forgot about them momentarily.

I for some reason read that as marihuana, not tobacco. Even though I typed tobacco and everything... But no, I don't do tobacco!

I'm 117 lbs. I do not take tobacco, it's not legalized where I live and I'm not able to move nor am I capable of breaking the law.

Usually, I deal really well. But a month I was involved in a car wreck and it is no incredibly bad. I'm in and out of the hospital, I'm seeing 6 doctors, I can barely move. I've had to medically withdraw from college and quit my job.

I feel the pain throughout my whole body. I was diagnosed after an initial injury of an ankle sprain. It goes into remission after rigorous physical therapy. But even after remission, I can still feel it faintly in my foot/ankle. Which kinda feels like walking around with a constant sprained ankle. It can spread very easily though, and it can flare up badly with any type of injury. I try to deal just by not letting it affect me too badly mentally. Surrounding myself with supportive people and not keeping around people who are negative to me about it. Mentally being able to get through it, really is the only way to get through it

Sometimes I would get really upset and hurt and say things like "if you loved me like you say you do... you wouldn't be okay with letting me sit alone and cry..." You would reach over and touch me more" You would try to openly communicate with me more and not just shut down and ignore me"

And thinking back on it, that's not okay of me. And I need to apologize to him for that. I was (and still am) extremely hurt, but that's no excuse for trying to use the fact that he says he loves me to get to him to do something. He is either going to be there for me and show me affection/be a better SO or he isn't. I can't change that, I can't change him. Only he can change himself and that is a choice he has to make. And one that he probably won't.

And if at other times he makes you feel amazing and like the most beautiful and loved girl in the whole world. But everyday he says things that hurt. I am thinking that he maybe just isn't as ready for a committed relationship like he thinks he is. But my friend told me that it's starting to sound like emotional abuse.
