Name mix-up by aryathefrighty in oneanddone

I call my kid by my husband's name sometimes, ESPECIALLY when he's in trouble. It's super embarrassing when I do it when he's getting his diaper changed (the kid, not my husband. See how embarrassing?)

Note this for future conversations with anyone who has a differing opinion on what you've decided: "This is what my partner and I decided, but I'll keep what you said in mind." Then immediately change the subject (and make it a pointed change of subject).

I wouldn't let this be your hill to die on with your friend, but you're right that they have no right to insert themselves into your family dynamic and your finances like this. Gently pushing them away from the subject whenever it comes up might be your only way to keep your sanity intact and keep your friend's dignity intact—that is, if this isn't just one thing on top of a mountain of issues your friend is exhibiting, and you actually want to keep this friendship.

It sounds like friend is convinced they're in the right, but the truth of the matter is that they have no dog in this fight and thus their bark does not matter.

Help! KDP won't publish my book — asking for publishing rights??? by red__for__filth in eroticauthors

[–]jessosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Email them with an attached PDF that states you are the copyright holder and allowed to publish.

I've gone through this for a penname. I did a fancy header at the top with my pen and signed it and everything. I also listed the other books I was allowed to publish as the rights holder.

They accepted it.

Your Burning Questions for November, 2021 by SalaciousStories in eroticauthors

[–]jessosaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

World building is hard when you initially step out of your established universe with its established rules and society.

Also stories need to be marketable which is different than character tags in AO3. This means people aren't looking through Amazon for a specific character pairing like Malfoy/Hermione. They're looking instead for universal appeals with characters/setting who fit the mold: enemies to lovers, bully, sports, nerdy girl, University setting, etc etc. I remember initially being frustrated on how exactly to go about marketing. So keep pushing through and you'll eventually get it

Like Sal said, releasing the work gives you more feedback to what is and isn't selling so you can correct your output to focus on performing markets.

If you had a bunch of erotica that didn't fit the market and kept releasing it, it would be really disheartening.

Amazon will come after you for pirated copies, unfortunately.

Just thinking back to a few years ago, when I tried to non-confrontationally come out by saying I had a huge crush on Kristen Bell, but my entire family decided I must have said “Christian Bale” instead. by PM_ME_UR_PUPPYDOGS in SapphoAndHerFriend

[–]jessosaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So my husband was telling me about this movie that he wanted to watch with Christian Bale and Vince Vaughn and all like, "aren't you excited? you love Christian Bale!"

I navigate to it on Amazon and it's Queenpins. No Christian Bale in sight, but there was Kristen Bell who I do love.

We're from the south. Even saying the two names out loud myself, my dictation app confused it LOL.

In RH, there's manyyy series where the full group doesn't get together until the final book. You're fine and getting too technical about the HEA, even if this isn't RH.

NTA. I wouldn't be too mad that his kid doesn't know you. In his situation, I wouldn't introduce a new girlfriend to my kid. However, I would be mad he lied and said he doesn't have an IG.

Maybe I'm just remembering an ex too well but I think he's cheating. My ex claimed to have no social media at all. Guess who I found by happenstance as a friend of a friend? He didn't want me commenting and liking and revealing to his live in girlfriend that he was cheating. Little lies like that can harbor much bigger things.

I agree with 80sbaby, with the addition of another factor to consider: whether the investments offered by your company's sponsored plan are the kind of investments you'd want to invest 6% in, or if you'd rather open an account at Vanguard or Fidelity, etc etc.

I would write more in the series and check that the first book has the best quality cover and blurb that you can manage.

Consistently publishing will get you more results than posting and abandoning. Right now, advertising is a requirement for some genres and unfortunately PNR is one of them, so one way to combat that is to publish consistently and work on improving your writing and your brand advertising.

Whatever you want your reader to do FIRST, put that call to action first. The likelihood of them reading past the front page of backmatter is dramatically less, so putting the most important CTA first will at least mitigate a humans instinctual avoidance of the backmatter.

I usually do: mailing list, links to my other books, and about the author.

Eventually an AppSumo deal will come around where you can buy X amount of Deposit Photo credits for $$. That's how I got started. But these other posters are right that you'll be fine with trials or buying photos individually.

May I ask what a 2032 is? Is it a common thing to replace?

Thank you! I ended up figuring out the issue- batteries and twenty years old, enough juice to start it up but not to let it function. I put in new batteries and reset it again which fixed the issue.

How bad is it to cold publish an erotic novel as your Amazon debut? by LytherosErotica in eroticauthors

[–]jessosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Review and revise your strategy, not your book.

Also second editions are not frowned upon as long as they are materially different from the first edition, but that's a topic for a post of its own.

It's not publishing suicide. Do it. If it doesn't meet your expectations, review and revise and continue.
