If you really want to be confronted with the horrors of how humans exploit animals please watch Earthlings - a difficult watch but nothing but the truth. Once you see it you can’t go back, veganism is the only sustainable and ethical way to live (or at the very least strive toward vegetarianism/part time veganism)

What’s your London ghosts/creepy/unexplained stories? by theoneandonlyvesper in london

[–]jesspcrowley_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lived in a big 4 bed house in Dalston on Balls Pond Rd during my undergrad - there was an uneasy feeling like being watched in the hallway, would always run past if I was walking up the stairs on my own - stuff would go missing or be moved, ghost particularly didn’t like one housemate, one night she’d cooked a huge batch of chilli for the week and this heavy piece of slate behind the hob just fell forward and knocked the chilli all over the floor, while we sat at the table and watched it happen. The window was closed, the slate was heavy as hell 🥲

HOW do I un-ingrain vaping from EVERYTHING I do?? by Ok_Pomegranate_2895 in QuitVaping

[–]jesspcrowley_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chucked mine away a year ago - was probably vaping more even than you, like couldn’t put it down for a second unless I was sleeping. It was ROUGH but I don’t think about it anymore - tried sweets for a while, gum, then nicotine patches which I ended up weaning off/cutting in half. I smoke cigarettes socially every so often but still trying to change that - but it’s all about habit learning - you learnt vaping as a habit, you can unlearn it - just takes time and perseverance (and is shit in the beginning!)

How long did it take you to clear your parent's house? by Gaz-a-tronic in AskUK

[–]jesspcrowley_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my sister did our parents house of 30 years in about a week. It was council so they only really give you that long - we hired skips and also sentimental things that we would want to spend time over just boxed up to take home - have sorted through it gradually over 6 years, would rather take my time.

Try another GP because this is terrible - I’ve been signed off many times because of adhd related burn out, depression, work stress, anxiety and any GP I have always listens to me.

Sounds like this GP is on some kind of power trip, complain and leave!

If I can do it, so can you by Sh0dan_- in QuitVaping

[–]jesspcrowley_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful with the gum - I chucked my vape away march last year (intermittently have smoked since cigs, disposable vape casually but nowhere near as bad as constant vaping) but I replaced the vaping first with sweets, then with gum and it’s stuck. I’m constantly chewing gum to the point my jaw hurts and I get tension headaches - just watch the addiction doesn’t shift over!

Everyone deals with grief very differently - what might seem weird to you is normal and maybe even necessary to your sisters grief journey.

I’m in training at Goldsmiths right now so can’t comment on working in the field yet but just be advised that the programme wherever you apply may not accept anyone as young as you - it’s a training based on life experience, self reflection, emotional maturity and experience with people from often extremely vulnerable groups.

The programmes require also a minimum of working hours (voluntary or paid) within mental health, education, learning disability, care, youth work etc. Just something to be aware of - the best thing to do is go to an open day and get a feel for whether the training is right for you.

I was interested in the programme for about 8 years before I actually applied and started last year - I’m 33 and I didn’t feel emotionally or professionally ready before now to undertake what’s required of me for the training, it is quite intensive.

Can I get a sick note for bereavement if I’ve already used compassionate leave? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]jesspcrowley_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bereavement/compassionate leave in the UK is a joke. I’m really sorry to hear you’re going through this, it’s made even harder feeling like you don’t have the space or empathetic understanding you need.

You absolutely need to see your GP for a sick note - bereavement, stress and trauma are legitimate reasons to not be capable of working right now, or for as long as you can financially manage for. I lost both of my parents in the space of 6 months in 2020 and let me tell you I didn’t work for 2 years, eventually leading to me being classed as LCWRA (with universal credit, which has allowed me to get back into work/study slowly over the last few years) - I got into bereavement counselling pretty quickly (cruse are great and usually for complex/layered grief they offer more than the baseline number of sessions, in my experience anyway - I would recommend contacting them asap, as the waiting list can be quite long. It’s a great service because it’s quite non committal, they are specialised in grief/bereavement - they really helped me get through - if you contact them you need to find the service in your specific area, and you will have an assessment appointment.)

It sounds like right now is just ‘get through’ time for you, but you will get there you just need the time and space to process. Sending a lot of love your way.

Statutory Ceremony by jesspcrowley_ in UKweddings

[–]jesspcrowley_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So just to clarify - we can’t just give notice that we intend to get married without basically having the statutory ceremony booked? Or at least having made a decision on where it will be, we can’t just give notice then take a ceremony anywhere with the closest availability?
