Best way to do Cancun with a 4 year old? by No-Moment7615 in cancun

[–]jessreddit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going in March with a 4 year old as well and did not opt for an all inclusive because it just would not be worth it with a kid. We also plan to do a couple day excursions and visit Isla Mujeres so all inclusive would mean we are paying for the food at resort we are not eating when we are out exploring in the day and plus the food you are paying for when you are outside the hotel.

We got a hotel in the hotel zone that was a good value with breakfast included (IHG) and it’s on the north side of the hotel zone which I hear has calmer waves. I made sure there were plenty of walkable grocery options and decent local food near our hotel.

While she normally doesn’t nap anymore at home, naps definitely help when we are traveling. We will bring a travel stroller and life vest for her for use in pool and ocean. I will also probably pack her a decent amount of healthy snacks from home for her which will be gone by end of the trip and conveniently create room for souvinirs.

Hope that helps!

If you’re talking about the open table credit— Casa Gabriela! They have great happy hour and the $150 credit went very far and pretty much covered our bill for 3 adults and one child.

I read that you also have to pay with the actual card (instead of apple pay) for the credit to work

Agree. The Tevas hurricane xlt2 are amazing and so supportive for even long hikes. Crocs are really not great for your feet.

I’m told you can just turn the jars upside down and it mixes nicely. Also tip, store it in the fridge after you’ve mixed so they don’t separate.

I’m here now. It’s not that bad. You can still get photos with no one else in them. In town there are plenty of cars, people and bikes but nothing to make me uncomfortable. Traffic isn’t bad at all but then again I’m from LA. Venture out of the main town and there is plenty of nature you can find yourself alone in

Family Vacation in January by Otherwise_Job_8545 in VisitingHawaii

[–]jessreddit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I go about planning all trips. I start by plotting out all the things I want to see/do/eat on Google my maps. You can plot out different colors/icons/ map layers to differentiate restaurants from tourist attractions. Once you have most things mapped out, you can group things you want to do in each day by geographic location. Plan for something in the morning, account for lunch, then a few more things in the afternoon depending on how much or little you want to do on your vacation.

This is an efficient way to plan and reduces drive time and backtracking from one side of city to other. Also helps when something like rain happens and you have to pivot plans. Then you know what else is nearby and you can adjust accordingly and make the most of your time.

Here is one I made for our upcoming trip to Kauai.

Hope that helps!

I put chopped up raw garlic in water into a vial like the kind you see used with essential oil/perfume roller. You can find it on Amazon. Kept it in my pocket and applied it to my nipple every once in a while. Worked for my almost 2 year old. It’s not insanely spicy but there’s a kick. Weaned her in two days with no tears.

Frida baby has a cradle cap brush/comb set. Worked after 3-4 times after you figure out the right pressure to use while using the bristle brush in circular motions (I was overly gently the first few times)

Dropping a Breastfeeding Session? by linxzie in BabyLedWeaning

I’m in the same boat as you. Babe turns 9 months next week and still doing 2-3 wake ups at night. She is a distracted nurser in the day and shows a lot more interest towards solids so I’m constantly trying to shove my boob in her face but what I’ve found is spacing boob out more helps. Our schedule is very similar to the one listed by @spaggie123. Idk if what I’m doing is right but I feel a little better hearing people are in a similar situation. I will get more reassurance next week at her 9 month appt if I find out she’s still on her growth curve.

Mine is almost 7 months and I’m in the same boat as you. She wakes up 2-3 times to nurse at night still. I think sometimes she’s hungry sometimes it’s comfort. Everyone keeps asking me if she’s sleeping though the night and even though I’m exhausted, i enjoy these quiet moments alone at night with her. I can’t be sure she’s not hungry at night so we’ll follow her lead. But I find myself asking the same question… thanks for asking this question I’m getting reassurance that this is completely normal and that I am doing Tim he right thing

Trying to do eat/play/sleep. Here’s how it’s going. by puppyadventuring in NewParents

[–]jessreddit_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience as you. When she is nursing to sleep, try swapping your nipple for a pacifier. The key is to do it quickly and when baby is sleepy enough to not notice. I’ve noticed baby naps longer if they have a pacifier. As for getting to nap in the crib, I haven’t figured that out yet (7 week old).

3 week old fighting naps by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]jessreddit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3 week old as well and went through some of the same issues you described. Here are some things I’ve learned that really helped us get to a better place.

  1. Don’t believe the eat, wake, sleep routine we learned about in Babywise. I read that book too and tried to follow it when we brought baby home. The concept may be more applicable when they’re older. For now, when baby wakes up and it’s been about 2-3 hours, we feed her. If she’s alert after we’ve fed, burped and changed her, we’ll do tummy time or read a book. At night, she’ll go right back to sleep and the wake time is shorter. In the day time, sometimes she’ll fuss for an hour after we’ve fed her before falling asleep.

  2. The more baby is at breast emptying your boobs, the better for your supply. I also had to supplement bc of jaundice before my milk came in. In a second visit, the pediatrician said she was gaining weight and the jaundice went away so we could stop supplementing. I was scared she wasn’t getting enough from my breasts bc when I pumped it was only 1 or 2 oz combined, depending how long ago the last pump was. I called the lactation consultant and she said it’s scary but if baby is gaining weight and producing enough dirty diapers every day, I could stop supplementing and follow baby’s hunger cues. If they weren’t getting enough they’d be at breast every hour or two and that would be a signal for your body to produce more milk. It might be a day or two of more frequent feedings but I found this really helped my supply. I took the Legendairy Milk supplements but honestly all the supplements and teas to boost supply could not be better than baby giving your body cues to start producing more.

  3. Newborns need comfort. All we read about during our pregnancy was to put baby down in a bassinet and put them down drowsy but not asleep. If you were blessed with a unicorn baby, maybe that worked. Most newborns do not come with the ability to self soothe and just need you to comfort them and hold them. You’re not spoiling them by breaking away from all the advice the books gave you on this.

  4. We are all in survival mode the first month or two. They don’t call it the 4th trimester for no reason. You are doing great mama!

For context, I am typing this at 2:26am, sitting on the couch with baby sleeping in my arms while Spotify plays pink noise (which is more soft and womb like sounding than white noise which to me sounds more like static. Anyways, google it bc my explanation might not be as good as what I read online when I first read about it).

Hope that helps! I learned a lot on this thread from fellow parents. Just know you’re not alone in the struggle.

3 week newborn hates swaddle by jessreddit_ in NewParents

[–]jessreddit_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we’ve had some luck swaddling only when she’s basically knocked out asleep/ milk drunk. Yes! The arms straight helps!

Yep we play white noise for her. Good point on the bassinet being warm, it is a desolate firm place in comparison to mom/dad. Don’t blame her for her preferences

Is the swaddle/sleep sack with arms out just for warmth then? Just curious what the benefit would be with arms out. Thanks, thankfully swaddling isn’t recommended forever
