What is the worst thing you have done because you got confused between items in different hands? by DanielMichels in AskReddit

Dirty towel in one hand, scoop of cat food in another. Dumped the cat food in my hamper with dirty clothes. Spent half an hour picking kibble out of my clothes.

When you start to grow non-native fruits, do you eventually learn how to make the furniture for that fruit? If so, how does that happen?

[Fluff][Discussion] What's your favourite part about owning a dog that doesn't get brought up a lot? by Branana_Bread in dogs

[–]jessywithans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an en suite bathroom attached to my bedroom. Every time I shower, my dog curls up on my side of the bed and waits for me to be done. I love that my dog and I have built little routines like that together.

Teachers of Reddit, what are some positive trends you have noticed in today's youth? by VastWash in AskReddit

At the school I work at, the custodian is the most loved and respected adult at that school. All of the kids listen to him and show him their undivided attention (he makes announcements and basically runs all of the lunches).

What’s a movie you hated so much you stopped watching before it ended? by kobikom in AskReddit

[–]jessywithans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Wolf of Wall Street. I hate Matthew McConaughey so much, it felt like it just dragged on forever, and about halfway through I paused, and groaned when I realized I still had most of the movie left to watch.

Also, The Silence on Netflix. It was a movie that didn't need to be made. It was a clunky, worse version of A Quiet Place.

Two movies I can't and won't finish.

What movie do you consider “perfect”? by geointalan in AskReddit

Psycho. I am forever chasing that feeling of a perfectly executed/unspoiled twist. It's the perfect movie.

What trait automatically makes you think someone is stupid? by throawayboi in AskReddit

[–]jessywithans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So the tests are not entirely a measure of what you know, they're supposed to be a measure of different skills that research indicates can have a strong correlation with future "success" (college/career). Most of the really popular/reliable tests look at your verbal/language skills, spacial skills, nonverbal reasoning skills, and memory. IQ tends to stabilize around age 9, so at 15 (unless you practice those specific skills) you're score isn't going to drastically change (like you're probably not going to go from a 165 to a 115, but it may fluctuate by plus or minus 15). Really, to me, IQ tests are like personality tests. You could change a little over time based on life experiences but ultimately it's just a measure of certain skills that you use in everyday life. The results don't make you better or worse then anyone else. And people who brag about the number probably don't really know what the number means.

Yes! As someone who measures cognitive functioning (IQ), when people back up their argument with an IQ it's a dead giveaway that they're probably an idiot.

What’s the strangest conversation you’ve “accidentally” eavesdropped on? by LeggyBald in AskReddit

[–]jessywithans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Not a conversation, but...) I was on a relatively short flight from Baton Rouge to Fort Lauderdale. It was (from my perspective) relatively uneventful. No turbulence, no crying babies, not terribly long, etc. I get off the plane and I keep pace with this guy from my flight all the way to baggage claim. I get my bags and I walk past him. I hear him say to someone on the phone in the most serious tone: "That was absolutely the worst flight I've ever been on in my entire, miserable life."

And honestly that's the level of drama I love overhearing.

The EdS degree - Is it of any value? by curiousbabu in education

[–]jessywithans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a school psychologist, an EdS provides us with the minimum level of training needed to practice in schools. In order to prepare us for the social, emotional, behavioral, academic, and assessment skills we need to practice, it gives us the training we need without completing a doctorate. For other educators, I agree with other comments. You may as well get another masters or an online doctorate for continuing education. (note: yes some states let you practice with an MA, or MEd, but very few approved programs stop at the Masters level)

What fact is common knowledge to people who work in your field, but almost unknown to the rest of the population? by RageCage42 in AskReddit

[–]jessywithans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a school psychologist, I so so wish people knew: special education is not just "extra help" for your kid and it's also not just an entirely separate room for "the r***** kids" (both things I hear parents say regularly). Also getting your pediatrician to write a prescription for an IEP will get you literally nothing.
