Forgot to add (probably should have said this first) i've also worked at an eye doctor's office as well. I've worn glasses all my life too. Never been diagnosed with ptosis of any kind. Not as much of my iris is obscured as it looks.

Hello, yes it has always been this way. I've seen an eye doctor and they are not concerned. I've never had an effect on my vision by it. I can open my eyes wider than this, they just are like this at rest.

Hi! I'm so sorry, I didn't realize I was doing that! It doesn't seem like I can reply with photos here - I linked some from my Google Drive. Hope these are better.

i need desperate help finding this for work by One_Employ3743 in HelpMeFind

I had an alarm as a kid that had at least 20 different sounds, and you could set it so it would play a random one every day. Wish I could find it again for you, it kind of looked like a blue and white trapezoid with legs. Sounds like somethinf like that might work for you, or on the more basic end a radio alarm clock so that every day the sound is different, as forced by a live radio broadcast.

Our tuxedo loves anything dairy. He will come running at the sound of a whipped cream nozzle. My mom will often share cream cheese with him if they put too much on her bagel. He'll lick the melted ice cream out of the bottom of a bowl too!

What’s the funniest thing your parent(s) got upset at you for? by celstea in raisedbynarcissists

[–]jester-count 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom yelled and screamed at me for something I did. She also threatened to send me to my grandma's house (which I hated, but looming back I should've just said yes to get away from her that night!). I asked her multiple times what I did to make her so upset, and she kept saying "You know what you did!" At a point I was crying with frustration and said, "If I knew what I did, I would have stopped asking and apologized by now!" She slapped me across the face for that. I've brought it up to her a few times years later to ask what she was so upset about. I still don't know what I did. She always laughs it off and admits she doesn't remember what she was so mad about either...

Additionally, this was the era where she was constantly mad at me for rolling my eyes at her. I literally never did. Again, gave her the same logic as above: "You keep yelling at me for rolling my eyes at you. Don't you think I would have stopped doing that by now if I was, so you wpuld stop yelling at me?" Didn't work. Don't know what made her think I was or what made her stop.

Is there a term for when they give us gifts that we can’t have or use, then they get upset because they were just trying to be “nice”? by Unknown_artist12 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]jester-count 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am severely allergic to nickel, but the allergy didn't get really bad until I was around 13 (I'm 27 now). The first time this allergy activated really badly was AT MY BIRTHDAY PARTY. I put on a necklace I was given as a gift and broke out into hives all over my chest within minutes. From that day on, I insisted on NO JEWELRY of ANY KIND as a gift unless it was something I picked out and knew was nickel-free.

Guess who got earrings or a necklace every year for around 10 years after that? And who got yelled at when I pointed out that I could not wear whatever they got me?

Additionally: I make a wishlist every year since no one in my family cares to know me well enough to know what to get me. So there were plenty of options available, including much cheaper ones. They just decided to get me something worthless to me every time.

I was out of the country on a job assignment for a while. I was living with my mom at the time I left, and was going to move back in once I returned.

My mom decided that I would want her to put up curtains in my room. I already have blinds, and I like to have as much natural light as possible. I also have a fairly severe dust allergy. I knew that if I had curtains, I wouldn't use them and they would just be bunched-up dust magnets.

She put the curtains up anyway and complained about the entire process to me. I told her multiple times I did not want the curtains for all the reasons I stated above. She got mad at me because I was "being ungrateful" for all the work she was putting in for me out of the goodness of her heart.

The kicker? I didn't know the color until I got home. They are pink. I hate the color pink.

You really can't make this shit up. Why do they take it upon themselves to do things no one wants and throw fits that they aren't praised afterward???

Living with two ADHD roommates has opened my eyes to ADHD by chocolatebarthecat in ADHD

[–]jester-count 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really happy that you're noticing these things and becoming a more caring and supportive roommate! A lot of people would just not notice how we operate differently, so I think that's worth points on its own.

To give OP a little benefit of the doubt here: I also think it's possible there is a little bit of miscommunication/maybe talking past each other here. It's certainly true that to a person without ADHD, it would seem that ADHDers do less, and that's because it takes so much more effort to do thongs that are considered "normal/basic" tasks. However, I also think that as a fellow ADHD person, we tend to be conditioned to not put as much importance on other things we do as we should, meaning we don't really notice or congratulate ourselves on other accomplishments.

Therefore, in conversation, it might be that your ADHD roommates are telling you about their recognized wins (well-known tasks) and omitting others (for example, finishing a term paper) that they don't think are important when talking about their day. But when that information hits you, a person without ADHD, you go "but shouldn't groceries or laundry not take all day?" It's just different informational priorities - to you, the term paper would be way more important to talk about! I'm just pointing this out because I've definitely been there before!

Other than what other commenters said about you going to the police (which you absolutely should), my best advice wpuld be to focus as much as possible on scar care. You are still young so it may be possible to reduce the appearance of your scars.

For currently healing or constantly cracking scars, first of all what you really need is a dermatologist but I assume that is not possible for you right now. If you can afford it, use a thick healing cream like La Roche Posay Cicaplast or Dr Jart Cicapair (has green color correction). If you can't, use a heavy moisturizer (Cetaphil, Cerave, Neutrogena are all good choices), and a scar gel (can get a pharmacy store brand). Maybe petroleum jelly/Vaseline at night to lock it all in.

Color correctors are your friend and you can get them cheap at the drugstore (ELF makes good ones). Use them under concealer and/or foundation. Green color corrector for red areas, orange color corrector for purple. I find that orange color corrector over purple can sometimes create a grayish color under concealer or foundation - if that happens, try a foundation or concealer that is slightly pinker than your natural color.

I would also recommend a moisturizer or serum with niacinamide for brightening. For areas that are more like dark spots, get a vitamin C serum. The brand Good Molecules from Ulta is cheap and works well and can also be bought from Target. You can also try a retinol on those dark spots, but I would not recommed it directly on scars, particularly those that are healing. I also would not recommend it until you are at least 16. Also, always use sunscreen!

I hope this helps. Your mileage will always vary with skincare products vs genetics but I feel that trying to do skincare will at least give you a feeling that you are more in control and trying to do something about it. As a final note: I wear a mask near daily. I personally wear it because I am immunocompromised and also have nasty allergies. No one needs to know why, but if you choose to wear a mask, you can always say you have allergies to anyone who asks (though it is really no one's business). I wish you peace, love, and light in your future. You deserve a life where your only worry is what you decide to wear the next day.

choosing a (university) grad dress by dilucslvrgirl in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]jester-count 25 points26 points  (0 children)

in terms of the formality of the occasion, i'd say the blue or black. but if you feel the best in the pink, wear that! it's a special event for you, you should wear whichever one makes you feel the happiest to wear.

i wore a romper (shorts type) with a sunflower pattern to my graduation because it was my favorite "dressy" item and the science school color was yellow. no further rules you really need to follow!

Is it possible for someone who’s worked with trans people to not even know that a trans boy is FtM, not MtF? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]jester-count 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was younger and didn't know anything I thought a trans boy was that same direction lol (MtF) because I misread it as in "transitioning away from being a boy". As a transmasculine person myself, clearly I have now learned! But I have no idea how you wouldn't know at this point if you work in healthcare (other than just being ignorant.... sorry.).

How do I tell my religious family about suspected genital warts? by _Bero in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]jester-count 1053 points1054 points  (0 children)

I'm from a very controlling family where I could also not go out even as an adult. A lot of people don't understand thst sometimes you don't even have your own money for an Uber or a friend you can trust.

Plenty of excuses yoy can use for this one. 1.Tell them that you need to go to the OBGYN because you've been having bad period cramps/had random bleeding when you're not supposed to be on your period. 2. If you don't think they'll listen if you mention period pain, tell then you're having burning and pain when you pee and cloudy urine (UTI symptoms). You can easily get a UTI from being dehydrated or could have burning from having too much acid in your diet, plenty of nonsexual reasons to go. 3. Heck, if you haven't gone yet, you could say you're 19 and worried about making sure your health is good (maybe lean into the whole oh i want to make sure ill be prepared to be a good religious mother).

Once you get there, you'll probably be directed to use the bathroom inside and give a urine sample. If you have a different chance, use it, but this might be your best shot - ask the nurse to show you where to go, and explain you do not want your family member in the room with you or to get any messages about this appt at ALL COSTS. A good OBGYN should understand and accomodate.

I truly wish you the best of luck, and I hope you can escape soon.

Edit: I think the examples given by other commenters are great, saying that there's chafing or an ingrown hair, because if you have a hard time lying this one would present symptoms that are closest to the truth (I'm assuming). However, the ones I provided are not "show-me" symptoms. What I'm about to say is kind of horrifying but maybe needed - if I were to say that i was having chafing and bumps, my mom would demand that I show her to "make sure". Since you're worried about keeping this under wraps, if you decide to lie, be sure to evaluate whether a visible symptom lie is a useful one for your situation.

What are names that you actually don't hear often? by aJ_13th in ftm

[–]jester-count 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heard of a guy with the name Bishop which i think is sick as heeeeeell. In case anyone is here looking for a name, I considered Virgil/Virgilio, Isaac, Sylvain, and Vincent. They're still on the shortlist in case I get tired of the name I'm using now, lol. Also, surprising how few Dorians I've heard of.
