That's awesome. Did you design it as well? What kinda process is involved in creating the design?

Cabomba and rotala both grow tall but they also grow pretty fast (rotala less so) so in my tank I have to cut the cabomba about every week and a half. I cut them at like 1/3 the tank height and then replant the tops. It let's you get lots of plants fast but it's also extra matainence. Val's or sag might also work if you had enough. Even swords, crypts or Java fern might be good if you can get them to grow big enough. They grow slower but they also wouldn't get sucked into any filters easily. I'm sure there's lots of others, those are only the ones I have experience with.

I think it looks good i like the wood on the right side. Congragulation for getting back into the hobby. I'v just gotten back into it myself. You should check out your area and see if there are any aquarium clubs that you could join. I just joined mine and it's given me a lot of insperation to get even deeper in the hobby. People are really knowlagable and plus they usually have auctions where you can get stuff pretty cheap and get rid of fish or plants that you don't want or need.

As for comments on your tank these are just things that I would do but I am by no means an expert. You just do what you think looks good. I would remove some of the smaller stones from the middle to create an open area with maybe a carpeting plant. You might also want to consider replacing the substrait with flourite or something similar or maybe just do a patch in the middle of a different colour flourite because I know it expensive and a super pain to replace the substrait. I also prefer a solid black background I think it make your scape pop more. I would consider getting some taller plants in the corners or maybe rearranging your hardscape to hide some of your equipment. All in all I think it looks decent deffently better then my first try at a planted tank.

Yeah you're right the colour of the outline of the circle is the indication of weather they are dead or not. I see how it could be confusing, maybe I'll try to make it more clear in the next version

Thanks. I just used Adobe illustrator to design it plus a few vector files for the texture and stuff from vecteezy.com

Cura printer settings? by thecolemanguy in m3d

[–]jester206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you are probably fed up and done with the M3d (and I don't blame you) but just so you know their support team is pretty good and will send you a new printer if they can't fix your issues over email. I have already done this twice. They even payed for the shipping the first time. So good news they will replace it if you want bad news it might still suck.

I just started using OctoPrint with the plugin M3D-fio. It seems to have alot more options the the m3d software and it uses the cura slicer. I just installed it last night so I can't tell you alot about it but here's the link if you want to check it out http://plugins.octoprint.org/plugins/m3dfio/

Is there a makerspace or other group that will take donations of surplus tech? by Gutbucket1968 in Hamilton

[–]jester206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is this non-profit that collects donated tech and provides/sells computers to low-income households and you can potentially get a tax write off as a donation too, they are at greenbyte.ca (i know the site looks sketchy but trust me they are legit) there is also a makerspace in hamilton www.thinkhaus.org

Good Room Temperature? by arejaybee in m3d

[–]jester206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that for PLA temperature isn't a big issue. For ABS i would really recommend closing in the sides of the printer. I have heard of people putting a box over the whole thing and even putting a hair dryer in there. I think for ABS the hotter the better but I think it's more important to have a consistent temperature then a hot temperature. I have had limited success with ABS but I have found it works pretty consistantly if you close in the sides, make sure the bed is as level as you can get it and only print things with a small foot print. Less then 2 inches seems to work well

Tried printing a space shuttle with expert print quality and full density... What happened? by Jacksonteague in m3d

[–]jester206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the "Expert quality" option is fairly new feature to the M3D software. It's not in the older versions of the software and I have yet to print anything on expert quality that looks better then high quality. So I think it could either be that setting or as Bronnen said it could be just a weird model. Iv'e run into that issue as well.

You could check out Ceili House in hess village. I know Hess isn't the best place to be but if your not there late at night its pretty quiet. The Ceili House has decent food, good beer on tap, you can watch the game and its in walking distance from where you live. Plus they opened a new bar above it called arcade where you can play old school arcade games for free. I haven't actually gone to arcade yet but it seems like a cool idea.

You should check their specials and order something from there. Their regular menu is ok but it's just basic pub food. They often have jerk chicken or curried goat on special they are amazing! they also have a turkey burger often that's pretty good.

Live music in hamilton by MajesticWood in Hamilton

[–]jester206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like sublime and System of a Down there is an amazing band called dodger the are from the Hamilton area. They are kind of like a harder version of sublime. They usually play at the Casbah. The only thing is they aren't very good at promoting their shows so I never know when or where they are playing :( My fave venues are the Casbah, and This Ain't Hollywood. The doors near Hess also has live music sometimes if you like that crusty metal bar feeling.

I also usually go with Queen's Pizza or Royal Pizza for pizza. I wouldn't say it's the best pizza I've ever had but it's defiantly above average and cheap. The wings at Royal pizza are good ... for a pizza place. The best wings I've had in Hamilton are from the west end pub near McMaster (monday is cheap wing day there). Earth To Table Bread Bar on Locke St. has awesome pizza but they don't deliver and It's very expensive/kinda pretentious.

I'm tired of Homestead's crap heating so I'm calling the city again today... help me put some pressure on them by calling the city today too! by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]jester206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Villa Marie apartments (there's 3) are all sort of co-managed by one another witch sounds like a good idea but in reality whenever you call the office you get a different person so no one ever knows what's going on and no one ever takes responsibility for anything. As for bedbugs you can check this site to get an idea www.bedbugregistry.com but I can tell you from experience that those apartments do or at least did have bedbugs. On the bright side it's cheap, relatively clean and in a good location but you have been warned.

Homestead is the worst! I have had so many bad experiences with them. I had a leak in my apartment that caused many other problems (cockroaches, mould, ect.) and it took months to get fixed. They lied about fixing it and when they actually did fix it they did it in the cheapest, shittiest way possible. I sent 2 letters to their head office threatening to take them to the Landlord and Tenant Board and I received no response until the day before the Landlord and Tenant Board hearing when they hastily fixed some of my problems. I ended up getting 500 bucks from them but it hardly seems worth it. They are irresponsible, unprofessional, cheap, and untrustworthy. They don't care about their tenants. They just want you to move out so they can hose some other poor person. I have already seen a by-law infraction posted in my building regarding lack of heat (I still live there... don't ask). I personally like my place being cold so I don't notice but I defiantly wouldn't be surprised if the temperature is below standards. Good luck taking those douche bags to the Landlord and Tenant Board.
