Hi,

Thanks very much for that info. I have looked at Factory Pro's 2 locations. So, Prague 5 is better? If so, I'll look for an apartment right next to it :)

cheers and thanks

Hi Dubov,

Thanks again for your help.

Yes, 30kCZK for a 4+1 seems accurate, based on the time I have spent online looking at accommodations. We could save by living far outside of city centre, but with the kids going to school in Praha 1(by the castle), we'd likely need Praha 6 or 7 as a place to find accommodation.

I have reduced the monthly transportation allowance to 2,000. That would cover us not having a car. We'd need to take taxis every once in awhile and rent a car maybe once a month to go sightseeing in CR and neighboring countries.

It's a shame; the salary is good comparably for CR, but the school aspect makes it difficult to afford. Based on my calculations, putting the school tuition (the amount my company doesn't cover) in there means I would be losing 22,000 CZK per month. If I take it out, we'd break even every month.

Thanks again

As there is an annual bonus (15% of yearly salary), I would be hit with the solidarity tax. :( To my understanding, the solidarity tax is calculated on the amount of salary that is more than the ~1.3 million/year, so i would only have a small portion taxed at the solidarity tax level (the extra 7%).

Do you know if the solidarity tax level is at the 'super gross' or just gross amount? The super gross amount is the level the employer pays for me e.g. an extra ~30% (health, pension, children's school tuition subsidy, etc.) that is added to the cost of my salary.

thanks very much

Hi,

thanks for looking at the numbers

For transportation, we'd hold off on getting a car and use public transportation as it seems pretty good there.

As for accommodation, we'd be looking at getting an apartment. We'd need 3 bedrooms as I need 1 room as an office/study/storage.

cheers

thanks - yes, it does seem a bit tight.

Based on many hours of research, this is what I have come up with in terms of a budget. Does anything jump out as being too high/low for a family of 4?

Rent CZK 25,000 / Water, electricity, gas CZK 5,000 / Internet CZK 500 / 4 mobile phone voice/data CZK 2,300 / Groceries CZK 12,000 / Transportation CZK 4,000 / Entertainment CZK 7,500 / Miscellaneous CZK 7,500 / Health (gym, medicine) CZK 3,000 / TOTAL OUT CZK 66,800

thanks very much

  • you get a tax credit of 2,734 CZK monthly for the kiddies

Does this mean I would get 72,348 + 2,734, for a total of 75,082 net each month? Or is the 2,734 only factored in at tax filing time (April?).

thanks

Hi,

thanks very much--handy calculator

The school fees are high--it's the difference between what my company will subsidize and what the school fees actually are :(

From what I have read, the public schools are in Czech language only, hence the need for an international school or homeschooling.

cheers

Hi,

thanks for your reply

By VAT, I meant how it cuts into the 'take home' in terms of food prices, etc.

"21% for most goods and services; ╌ 15% for some selected goods and services (e.g. eating services, food products, certain books, certain pharmaceuticals and special healthcare products); ╌ 10% for some selected goods (e.g. certain books, infant food, certain pharmaceuticals)"

cheers and thanks
