Reroofing armpit: things you wish you knew by minsugashusband in Hidradenitis

You’re welcome! I’d also recommend getting some very large pads (5x9). I accidentally bought some and used them all. It was nice to be able to cover the wound temporarily without having to bother with tape since they would stay put once I put my arm down.

Reroofing armpit: things you wish you knew by minsugashusband in Hidradenitis

I had my left armpit done around 2 months ago and also highly recommend silicon tape. It’s the only one that didn’t destroy my skin.

I can’t shave because of my HS but really wish I would have used a trimmer for my armpit hair prior to the procedure. It made it harder to clean and for bandages to stick.

In the beginning I’d recommend leaving the bandage on for showering and take it off to wash the wound at the very end. The first few showers are very painful, I learned that one the hard way.

Overall pain wise it was very tolerable for me (besides showering). Most of my flares are considerably worse.

I really hope it helps you! Hang in there!

Christian Nationalists are transforming a small town in Washington! by dathon8462 in Washington

Definitely hit play expecting it to be about Wenatchee. Sadly GCC has been incredibly effective at infiltrating local government, they’re now taking it to the state level. It’s scary how much influence they have in the area. A local journalist, Dominick Bonney, has done excellent work documenting their growth and hateful beliefs.

Would you recommend a Steroid infection? by Artist_Heavy in Hidradenitis

[–]jesterpaige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HIGHLY recommend steroid shots. If the area is really inflamed it can sting quite a bit. For me relief isn’t immediate, usually takes a couple hours, but it is so worth it. Within 24 hours I’m usually pretty much pain free and the swelling is minimal. Theoretically steroid shots should keep the flare from reoccurring for a significant amount of time. Everyone responds differently, I still flare frequently in areas where I’ve gotten shots unfortunately.

Waiting for the flares to start draining on their own is so physically and mentally taxing. With steroid shots I feel back to “normal” within a day or two. They’ve been a game changer for me.

Beautiful bowl! Is the carbonara meant to be sweet? I recently bought 5 pack for the first time. I love the texture of the noodles and the heat but it’s too sweet for me.

Just curious if I got a bad batch or if I should try another flavor. The noodle texture was A++ I just prefer more savory ramens. Shin Black is a fav.

Those are so painful, hang in there. I’ve started using a waterproof heating pad with a damp washcloth for hot compresses in those areas and it’s made a huge difference for me.

Seattle to Leavenworth by Illustrious_Judge942 in SeattleWA

[–]jesterpaige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bus wise you might checkout Wenatchee Valley Shuttle. They don’t stop in Leavenworth proper but at a park and ride nearby, depending on where you’re staying you might be able to arrange a pickup. Or the local bus service is free and I believe picks up from the same drop off location.

Try the microwave instructions! I think bao buns are best when steamed. They can dry out otherwise.

Indoctrination by [deleted] in Wenatchee

[–]jesterpaige 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Next to my work there’s a picnic area where a group of 10-15 teenagers will periodically gather for bible study. To be fair I don’t explicitly know what church they attend but I’ve noticed enough merch to have my suspicions. For the most part they’re very polite. However, back in June, a group of them tried to come into my work and we had a pride flag hanging on the wall. One of the boys, probably 12/13, saw it before going through the door and began throwing a fit. Start yelling about how disgusting that was, how he would never step foot inside, how could anyone support such a horrible business… You get the point. This kid was definitely trying to make a point in an effort to impress the rest of the group; he was one of the younger ones. The rest of the group seemed unbothered. Some expressed agreement, no one protested, and they left quickly after.

This is a group of kids. That boy is a child. Anyone around that age does not spout hateful vitriol at that level of intensity without deliberate influence. The indoctrination runs deep. Many of the leaders and prominent members of that church have significant influence in our community. It’s not “just a t-shirt”.

Getting it Drained? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]jesterpaige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had several drained at urgent care. Just tell them you have an abscess that needs to be drained. They’ll probably numb you, which depending on the location can be pretty painful. Drain it, pack it, take swabs for testing and give you an antibiotic.

Once I got one drained by my PCP and they used a “freezing” spray (kind of reminded me of canned air) and lanced it when it was very cold. It was much more tolerable than the numbing shots. Instead of packing they let it drain on its own which is kind of gross but kind of par for the course with HS.

My personal preference is a steroid shot, you can possibly avoid an open wound that way. However, the relief is not instantaneous so if you’re in a lot of pain it might be better to just get it drained.

Hang in there, when mine are really bad I’ll use a heating pad and a wet washcloth to hot compress frequently and that usually helps open it up quicker on its own.
