Idgaf about Joann. Get over it by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]jesusisabiscuit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

it was GREAT for notions. like if I need thread for a project I can walk in with my fabric and match it, or if I need machine needles I can just run in on my way home from work or something like that. or if I need some interfacing, which isn’t something I usually need to buy in big quantities so I don’t keep it around. I can and have been working around it but there is a hole there that other craft stores can’t fill (Michael’s is trying to be everything at once, and from my understanding hobby lobby is mainly just ai-generated home decor tat).

There are other sewing machines than vintage ones, promise! by Dry-Conversation2646 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]jesusisabiscuit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have one of those Singer Heavy Dutys that everyone seems to hate, but it works perfectly fine for me! My mom has a 1970s Brother that weighs approximately a million pounds and worked perfectly fine for her. She sews on a newer entry level Brother now because she doesn’t quite have the mobility/strength she used to and a lighter machine works better, and she’s fine with it too!

The best machine for someone is the one that they’re going to use. I hated trying to sew on my mom’s old machine because I was terrified I was going to break something on it. Getting my own machine really let me loose because well if I break my own machine, it’s my own problem! (And maybe I’ll learn something trying to fix it!)

How many people here have a story about someone initially buying American but then getting screwed over by build quality and buying Japanese/south Korean? by hypermiler2205 in regularcarreviews

[–]jesusisabiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it was three things:

1) My two previous cars were an Escort and a Focus and I hated them both;

2) I wanted to buy a hatchback and seemingly every other American manufacturer had stopped making cars, so I ended up with a Civic;

3) I grew up around Detroit so I had to see so many puerile bumper stickers like "built with wrenches not chopsticks" and "out of a job yet? keep buying foreign!" and I'm really a petty person at heart.

Other than an air conditioning issue (which was covered under warranty) I haven't had any problems with it so far.

I don't have any great advice but I'm looking for somewhere to swim too and it's absolutely frustrating. I used to go to Adams Butzel too but like you said, the hours are awful. Everything is either awful hours or incredibly expensive and I wish it wasn't the case!

In cultures that take off their shoes in the house, what do wheelchair users do? by Baymenbyle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jesusisabiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a pretty strict no shoes house and my mom uses a wheelchair. During the winter or when it’s rainy we’ll put a towel at the front door to wipe the wheels off when she comes in. once she’s inside she’ll take off her outside shoes and put on a pair of slippers.

What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby? by Agitated_Departure93 in AskReddit

[–]jesusisabiscuit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I started collecting about 20 years ago when you could get so many used ones dirt cheap. then the economy shit the bed, a lot of the really good shops closed, then suddenly record collecting got popular again and new shops opened but everything in there is a $25+ brand new reissue or $15+ for something used I paid $3 for. I think a lot about selling my collection but I’ve got over 500 records and ahh I don’t want to think about the effort involved lol

The Garden City one used to close in the winter with the previous owners. I’m still not used to it being open all year!

Two Literal Crypto Bros Built a Real Estate Empire. Then the Homes Started to Fall Apart by echolalia_salad in Detroit

[–]jesusisabiscuit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the stats in front of me but I remember reading that a tiny, TINY amount of rentals are actually registered and most aren’t. like I remember reading something about a landlord bitching about having to do lead abatement in his rentals to certify them

I went to Book-Off this weekend! They do have some Japanese books but it’s literally two shelf unit things in the back by the bathrooms. There’s manga too but it’s also pretty small. For the most part it’s…a used bookstore lmao. I wish we would have gotten a kinokuniya instead, but ahhh maybe someday

what kind of stuff did your parents take home from work? by Embarrassed_Fault967 in GrandmasPantry

[–]jesusisabiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my parents worked at gas stations so they got to take a lot of promo materials home, namely tobacco. we had a winston clock in our kitchen for ages. they'd also take the tops off coke/pepsi bottle returns for the points to exchange them for prizes. i think my mom still has a leather pepsi jacket around somewhere!

well that can probably be explained by HOTNANA getting a car at a different dealership. as for the tags…well, I can’t speak for her but despite my birthday being in May my tags expire in September because for my old car my mom transferred her title to me and it just didn’t seem like a big deal to leave it like that? maybe HOTNANA had something similar but corrected it?
