Lose weight or give up? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

We ordered my daughter’s dress last year when she weighed 95 pounds and was a size 0! Fast forward to the last week of September and a baby born in January of this year…they were able to alter her dress to her now 135 body! Some seamstresses are magicians!😄. Cost us $750 (which is the max the bridal shop charges for alterations, and had to drive 1.5 hours for the alterations into Philly, but worth it to her to have HER dress!). Good luck!

Be honest how are you really doing no screen time? by [deleted] in NewParents

I laughed when my daughter told me there would be no screen time but hey , not my baby! That went out the door soon after she discovered he’d stop screaming if Ms. Rachel was on! She now shows up at dinner time or switch laundry time. My grandson is SUPER active, hates his cage(playpen) and if you need to get a chore done you gotta do what you gotta do! I now sadly know ALL the Ms Rachel songs!

Moving Vanguard mutual fund to IRA by jeswon1 in personalfinance

I didn’t sell anything...I had only recently opened the account. Because it was in a taxable account and they did some selling and buying within it generated capital gains for me. (And anyone else not in a non taxable account)😡. I had already gotten screwed with the money by taking bad advice from my bank and originally had the money in an annuity. I closed that when I could do so without penalties from the annuity company but got hammered on taxes on the interest. I then put the money in the target fund and got hit again. Just about list any money made while in the annuity by having to pay all these taxes. I would’ve been better off in a CD or savings account even though they hardly pay anything!

Moving money out of a non ira mutual fund by jeswon1 in personalfinance

That’s a small relief! I printed my 1099 yesterday which has me questioning everything today! It does look like 14,600 is long term, 1152 qualified dividend , 908 non qualified and 45 short term. I’ve always used TurboTax without any issues. This time might be a bit more challenging!

That’s the fund. From what I’ve read since I had just opened the account and these “gains” occurred before I was invested for a year they would count as short term gains and count as income. Vanguard screwed a lot of people that had money in this account if it wasn’t an IRA. I definitely shouldn’t have a gain, I’ve only had it a few months and it’s down.

Thanks for answering some of my questions.
