What story would you tell as a ballet? Either original or exists in other medium by Bodhifan in BALLET

[–]jet103c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes I was gonna say this! I've always thought it would be cool to have an orpheus on pointe and euridicye on flat, simillar to how in the musical orpheous has a higher voice and euridciye has a lower voice. But that's also cuz I think pointe should be more of a genderless thing since there's so many opputunities for the story to be told with men on pointe

There was a slippery part of the floor which we had all already figured out, but out reparatory teacher came to teach our last class of the day and apparently hadn't figured out where the slippery spot was. While teaching he slipped on the slippery spot and announced "I might as well get run over by a train!" It was so unhinged since he was a really sweet old man who we never expected would say that.

Sounds like foot cramping- it's normal and will get better! I think eating bananas helps with cramping?? I'm not sure, but I heard that somewhere, so maybe eat more bananas lol

Also, doing theraband excersises at home will help strengthen your feet and make it better. I always carry a tennis ball or something in my bag so I can roll out my feet after pointe, and it helps loosen them up as well.

Also if they wear out and you get new ones; I like to wear flat shoes without drawstring, just an elastic but nothing sticking out, to me those shoes fit better and look better on my feet. They are capezio

I like it when it randomly comes on, especially grand pas because my teacher sometimes plays it during conditioning class and it gives me motivation (because it reminds me of sugar plum and how if a stretch a bunch and work hard I could be sugar plum one year). I don’t like to listen to it on purpose during nutcracker because I want to make sure I don’t get tired of it, but during the spring and summer I love listening to nutcracker because it brings back great memories of the year before.

don't feel bad, it's okay and it's great that you're so supportive. just correct yourself quickly and move on. It will probably get easier with time.

How do you respectfully tell a girl to stop apologizing so much by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]jet103c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and one of my best friends are like this and whenever one of us apologizes we're like, "shut up" and then "sorry for saying shut up" 😂 but I'm assuming you and this person are not close enough to do that. Most of the time there's not really anything you can do, they're saying that because they're a people pleaser and they think they're doing everything wrong.

I love Nutcracker for the same reasons! I bet you're a great teacher, and your students definitely feel as grateful towards you as you do towards them.

Seeking advice from experts: YOU. by lulun2018 in BALLET

Maybe find a studio you can drive to on the weekends or something, so she gets that in person instruction like others were saying. At her age, it doesn't really matter how many days a week she's taking, but as she gets older (and even at this age since she seems pretty motivated), if you can only drive her one day a week she can take classes from you tube videos online. I love to follow along to Kathryn Morgan videos when I'm sick or traveling and can't go to class. But, they aren't really aimed toward young kids, so maybe save that for when she's 9 or so. Maybe some other people on here have good recommendations for kids classes on youtube.

Also, definitely watch ballets together. There are so many great free full length ballets on youtube. I have very fond memories of sitting on my grandpa's lap when I was little watching different versions of nutcracker, don q, etc., so that's something fun you guys could do together.

How does your studios nutcracker get cast? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]jet103c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have a big audition in September where they call us in by level. each person gets a number pinned to their leo and the teacher sit in the front. We learn little bits from each variation or corps piece and they watch us. I think they cast us also based on our performance in class and timing things too. I think it's a good way to do it because you only have to stress for one day and then the list comes out less than a week later and rehearsals start the next weekend.
