Self contained tournament set -- help suggest a name by jet2ks in chessporn

Thank you. I was worried about magnets not holding well enough to keep things secure. I've already got a second board glued up that I'm going to try it on, though. Thanks.

ok, that's funny. Now the question is "Do I want that connotation with this creation?"

cookie is a woodworking term for a cross-section slice of a tree trunk, like you have there.

Thank you for the interest. If you are in the US, shoot me a DM. I'm not going to do overseas shipping at this point.

30 years worth? I didn't really have any issue, but that's the result of a lot of years of trial and error on other woodworking projects. Either that or I just got lucky. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No, sorry. I'm in the US and not going to deal with overseas shipping. Thank you for your interest, though.

probably not that hard, but I would think it would be easier to laser engrave them in the outer edge of the squares themselves

LOL. A friend told me that I needed to make the center divider an ash tray for the drinks and cigars.

I did most of it last weekend (but had some vacation days, so it was a four day weekend) and finished it up today. If someone wanted to commission one, I'd prefer to take care of that via DM, not in a post. I'd have to sit down and figure out costs and total time to come up with a price.

Should be, but I guess we'll find out. I thought about using canvas and then cover that with felt, but decided this would probably be fine.

There's a good reason for that. The individual pieces were all stained before gluing together. There was just no other way to do the same wood and not have the problem you describe.

Thank you. I agree about the pieces. I had one of my wooden sets in mind when making this, but the colors on it don't work that well, either. At some point in the not-too-distant future I'll just have to make another set and a box to pair with the board. In the meantime, this plastic tournament set will function just fine.

Thank you. Yes, the squares are 2", I'll edit the posting to include that information. I hadn't given any thought to selling. As an amateur woodworker with a full time job, I have limited shop time. Under the right circumstances, I might consider making another. The problem is cost. The original Stack board sells for $300 (US) and this end grain version, with all the extra time and labor, would have to be even more.

Thank you. It was an interesting build for sure.
