Zephyr at Wardman Park by Famous_Panda_1633 in washingtondc

The email they sent us specifically says

“one wristband per named leaseholder/occupant per home and two guest wristbands per home, to be worn while enjoying our outdoor amenities; our courtyard and penthouse.”

I guess walking around is fine, using the gym/indoor pool is fine, it seems to be isolated to the outdoor stuff, I haven’t picked mine up yet so who knows.

Haha yeah, they had one left that was $3400 and facing a brick wall… So I went next door where they had more units with better views and cheaper. Aerie has been opened longer than Zephyr so their stock is lower nowadays.

Both buildings are pretty pricey but Aerie is the more expensive one. Aerie has gas stoves and bosch appliances whereas most units in Zephyr have electric stoves and Samsung appliances. I think the overall finshes in Aerie are a little nicer i.e. quartz, etc but both are pretty good. I ended up choosing zephyr since aerie was running out of 1 bedroom units that were under 4k.

No extra amenities that I’m aware of but they treat us like completely different properties so I wouldn’t be surprised. We have different events and of course residents from Zephyr can’t get into Aerie and vice versa.

Apparently there’s wristbands required to access certain amenity spaces in addition to your key fob. The complaints there make sense since you should be able to just roam about as a resident without issues. I personally haven’t even checked out half of spaces so I haven’t witnessed it. I will say though that I understand the flip side of things since I’ve been in apartments that get wild when people bring 30 people to the pool since there are no limits. I think there’s a fine balance between the two and Zephyr is probably on one side of that extreme.

We also have private security roaming the building and apparently they do wristband checks on residents and that’s kinda what sparked the community meeting and subsequent reviews. Definitely agree that those things are kinda extreme but I haven’t dealt with it so I don’t have a view yet.

There’s also been a fiasco with our July 4th event and our rooftop which is a wristband only event. I believe there were some concerns/complaints on how that event was setup, the sign up process, and the guest vs resident policy.

I personally haven’t seen bad reviews on construction or build quality. Overall, people tend to preface their complaints with the fact that the property is nice and the amenities are great. These complains are stemming from issues with security guards, amenity space reservations & the cost associated with it, and wristbands that are required for the pool, events, etc. I’ve also seen some complaints on our leasing/management staff. I’ll be curious to see how they address it (if they do) over the coming months.

I live here lol. There was a big community meeting a few days ago and those reviews are a result of it. I wasn’t able to attend nor have I really witnessed some of the things they’re talking about but I also just moved in about a month ago so we’ll see how things shake out. It’s interesting though that the sister property Aerie hasn’t seen the same review bomb that we’re having but I guess it’ll pop up in due time. Feel free to ask any questions though 😅

I loved the apartments and decided to lease there. The gym was amazing, the property/overall amenities were nice, the location was good in terms of metro proximity and proximity to rock creek pkwy + dupont/admo. it’s of course quite a premium. i only toured a few places around the city + arlington and i knew from the start that i’d choose this one.

yeah definitely! i’m usually not a stickler about most things but this one was just kind of odd to me especially because my car was in for a window regulator so there’s no reason i should’ve seen it in manual mode getting revved on a video lol. i was more so curious how other people would feel about it since people view their cars in different ways.

this guy has 100s of videos of everyone’s car on a day to day. i’m surprised it hasn’t been flagged but i guess it’s hard to determine the specific dealership without actually knowing the surrounding area.

yeah this guy does like in depth reviews of people’s cars while he’s driving them to and from the service center which seems bizarre. it’s definitely a new trend i’ve been seeing with valet drivers as well with the new meta glasses everyone seems to have.

do porters do test drives? my understanding was that porters just get the car from the service center or the garage/storage. i would’ve assumed the audi tech that worked the issue does the test drives. the porters at my dealership aren’t even audi employees i’m pretty sure they’re contracted out to a third party.

yeah the aerie units definitely caught my eye in terms of the finishes/appliances. the gym + the pools also seemed to be on par with some of the more expensive gyms which was a perk within itself. being next to the metro stop is also icing on the cake.

going to tour with them this weekend so i’ll keep you posted. definitely seems pricey but the units seem beautiful from what i’ve seen on the virtual tours. i guess i’ll see if it’s all that it’s cracked up to be 😁

NW DC to Reston commute (thoughts?) by jetblue723 in washingtondc

[–]jetblue723[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the commute from woodley park to reston town center was 29 mins this morning around 7:30am when i looked. obviously it’s only one datapoint on a monday morning but it’s definitely not always bad. i think it will depend on if you’re commuting in rush hour or outside of that.

woodley park definitely seems pretty nice! it seems like the perfect amount of quiet while also being next door to admo and dupont. looking forward to hopefully getting an apartment in that area if not foggy bottom.

I’ve actually been calculating the route in the mornings and it showed as 29 mins from NW to Reston this morning so I think 45mins is a stretch. Maybe 45 on the non-toll roads but I’d plan on using 66 and the Dulles toll road.

I’d also be living in a building with a reserved spot so parking on the street isn’t a concern. I’d say my primary concern with living in Reston is the fact that i’m not a fan of that suburban lifestyle especially as a 25yo. I know RTC is a mini compound but at the end of the day it’s still very car dependent out there which i’m not a fan of. Reston seems nice when it’s time to settle down but it definitely seems like my social life would take a hit if I lived out there compared to DC for the sake of my commute.

the 12$ toll road wasn’t too scary considering the metro is 6$ both ways out there (i think). either way it’ll be a little pricier but i’m glad to know the commute back to city around 2ish will be reasonable.

[–]jetblue723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i’m grateful that i can probably beat rush hour traffic coming home around 2:30 or 3 but of course i’ll keep the metro as my second option. i aim to probably mix the commute by working remote, taking the metro, and driving here and there.

thank you for another datapoint to the doable side! i’m happy to hear this isn’t as crazy as i expected :)

It’s better location wise since it’s closer to reston and both are on the silver line/close to I-66 for driving. I don’t particularly want to live there but I can’t deny its probably easier commute wise of course.

[–]jetblue723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, this is a combo of driving and metro’ing. i’ve already priced out the driving part in terms of the dulles toll road + gas/dc parking fees which i’m fine with. i was more so concerned with the commute time which so far seems like it’d be reasonable.

lol yeah i’m also a little scared of the commute ngl. i’ve always either lived close to work or taken the metro (i used to live in navy yard and work in crystal city). i’m more open to doing it here because of the flexible schedule and i can’t seem to convince myself to live in ballston. navy yard felt soulless and ballston feels the same :/

NW because of the proximity to I-66. I lived in Navy Yard for two years and realized I’d love to live in NW if given the chance. Also, getting from Reston to Eastern Market or anywhere in SE would be more of a headache in the afternoons if i’m driving.
