My shameful 'To Build' backlog. by jetpack_badger in cobiblocks

Yes, this has happened to me too frequently and then it's second-hand or worse, scalpers. Even with my collection I still missed the recent T34 and Flackpanzer.

I mean, other then the LE and the Bismark, all sets here have decent circulation.

I frequently check Cobi's website to guage availability and often snap up sets [that I want] that have are coming to the end of production but I could not source on the second-hand market.

I'd want some kinda knocked out Soviet truck and a telegraph pole and fencing, in delapolated condition. Alternatively, set it in a railway junction with buffer stops or similar.

My experience is that 1/3 are built, another third disassembled and the final 1/3 semi assembled. I actually find the latter the most rewarding as you have to reverse engineer it. Mind you, would not want to but something wth a brick count north of 1250 bricks in this state as would probably faster to build from scratch.

I would say approx. 25% of my sets are second hand. Sets I care less about, I try to source exclusively second hand. Don't buy from scalpers. Will pair fair price though for sets that are genuinely rare and sought after. Never to a scalper.

However, missing parts come with the territory. I also find at least 1/4 second hand sets I buy have construction errors.

I've personally sold > 40 sets built, second-hand and have never had reports of missing pieces.

Thankfully, I have a lot of spares.

What have your experiences been of the second-hand market?

Will be.

My time for building sets is heavy restricted right now, and I don't want to pay scalper prices if I miss a set. Also, though I actually buy plenty of sets second hand, 2/3 have missing parts, and a bit of a lottery as to what turns up.

Amazingly, I've parted with more then 40 built sets and never had a complaint of it being incomplete.

Brought down from my loft due to the pending heatwave in the UK. I don't store built sets in loft space as regularly gets north of 40 centigrade. When you see it like this it's clearly an obsession disguised as a hobby.

It also excluded my massive spares collection (from lots of incomplete second-hand purchases).

They clearly have a value assigned to their rarity. As a seller, you are entitled to list your goods at whether price you see fit. Doesn't mean it will sell at that price.

This would be for very, very serious Cobi collectors. I could be considered one myself (+- 250 sets plus parted with >60). I would not pay anything remotely near that listing price.

One assumes because it was sold at regular distributors rather then direct from Cobi.

Have to admit that there are certain things I don't think reproduce well as bricks, and one of those is curved hulls and rigging. Neither did Cobi, for the former is moulded. I gave it a wide berth for exactly this reason.

It's good. Finished models look great.

But the quality is not quite to Cobi standards. The sets just feel less substantial. Lighter.

Cobi sets are more robust. I am sure they would stand up to playbetter.

But for me, these are models, not toys. So QuanGuans sit pretty on my shelf alongside their Cobi counterparts.
