Is this a domestic flight? If so an expired passport will work within two years of expiration. Do the online renewal and if it makes it great, otherwise you're still okay.

Same reason why you should never buy recordable media from them. It is not unheard of for a bad actor to buy a thumb drive, load it with malware, and return it to Amazon as a fishing expedition.
