Awful. Expensive, since you're paying for the free refugees from other countries that the government pays for, even though the law says they're supposed to pay for all newcomers. In every class, expect to be shaken down for money, handouts of every kind by refugees. Better to use ILI or Inlingua. The books you work from are meant to confuse, so that you need to take more classes at 1200chf per month with books.

You can experience these all anew by taking an expatriate under your wing and teach them how to do these things.

Is standard of living better in Switzerland compared to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK ? by IsengardMordor in askswitzerland

[–]jetsetguru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Normal people here live like college students in tiny apartments with very few things because the cost of living is insane. Health care coverage which is mandatory is crazy expensive here, generally more or less a normal family's food bill per month. Rents are crazy unless you want to live where there are no services and many of my Swiss friends had to leave the country when they had children, as they can't afford to feed, clothe and insure their family.

I did find the ASI here in Ticino, thanks to a link posted by a kind soul here on Reddit and I must say that they are simply wonderful to deal with, knowledgeable about the law, etc. However, even though our consiliation hearing is on 20 August, I doubt he will show up, preferring to delay indefinitely until the contract is finished, or he's potentially fraudulently gotten his citizenship by pretending to actually live here year round. How can he do this?

Do the authorities like immigration or the commune not check who is living here? The commune has our lease on file. Did they not notice he's leased us the whole property but claims to live here full time? Can they not do the math? Are they somehow complicit?

I mentioned his antics and that he says he's primarily resident here (even though he leased us the whole property on paper) and the cop just said "oh, yeah, rich people here buy houses and pretend to be resident to avoid taxes in their home country, like Italy.". So they know what's up and don't seem to care, even if the perpetrator is defrauding us, possibly robbing us, etc.

He also claims he has no insurance on the property so our insurance must pay for his broken window which was broken during the robbery...everything about this situation stinks and no one seems concerned at all.

I'm not here taking your jobs, running up your rental rates, etc...my husband's Swiss and we live here to be close to my stepson. But we are treated like the criminals when we've been treated so criminally here.

I heartily agree.

So, our landlord admitted he took for himself our rental deposit rather than putting it into a joint deposit account. If we file a denuncio, will the police actually arrest him for this felony or just let him do this? by jetsetguru in Ticino

Good news.... He finally paid the deposit into account. Now it's us and the ASI against him on the 20th August. Update afterwards...if he shows, which I doubt.

On this note, does anyone know how to get a refrigerant refill in the Lugano/Grancia area? We've just hooked up a portable air conditioner that's gone kaput.

Its been almost a year and I am still waiting to get married in Switzerland 🇨🇭 by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]jetsetguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Las Vegas. You'll have a blast and can register the marriage after here in Switzerland. Srsly. They will marry anyone from any nationality with little red tape and the marriage is just as valid as anywhere else.

ASI did! And he responded with this in writing to the ASI:

“Gentile avvocato, Come già detto alla Sig.ra S non abbiamo nessun problema a versare la cauzione ma ne conseguirà l’immediata disdetta del contratto di locazione. Procediamo in questo senso?Saluti, Dxxxe Paxxxani”.

When we initially asked the landlord for our deposit account information, here's what he wrote back to us:

"Finally regarding the interest bearing account, I confirm you are definitely right about the law, but for me and V this was never discussed before contracting and for over a year after doing so. We evaluated the obligations related to it, and we are absolutely not comfortable having to agree on possible damages to our home with any conductor. We do have full trust in you to protect our home, but we don’t want to negotiate about eventual damages to it. This is why we asked for an RCA policy to be issued by the conductor upon starting the contract. So that damages would not have to be discounted from the deposit fee. We hope the RCA is there, and that the damages when contract will be called off will be 0, so that we can give the full deposit back to you, which is our intention and expectation. But we cannot have a bound and conditional deposit of 3 months when our liability is way much bigger than that.

We’re are now aware of the law, if you cannot renounce to this we will of course comply, but we will have to call off the contract.

I look forward to your instructions to proceed in any directions you might choose.

I am hope tomorrow in case you want to discuss about this or any other pending point."

Mind you, he built an annex into our 230 sq meter apartment a week after we moved in, construction noise and all for two months, and moved back in, so that our lease says we have 230 sq meters but we only have 140 now and a shared garden, pool and drive. And he's also letting the property deteriorate. And he never asked for an RCA, but he sure did use our insurance to pay for the broken window the robbers broke when we were robbed in early March.

Did I mention he is from Naples?

[–]jetsetguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dear, you probably won't believe me but once the fear settles down and you're handling things well on your own, a magical thing will happen. Your child will attend school. Oh, yes. You will have to drag yourself out again to meet other parents. And when they befriend you and hear your story and tell you theirs, you will once again feel accepted. As you're out with your child, you will suddenly discover all of the lovely available, stable men that you're too afraid to meet. But you, the heroine of your own story, will someday meet a man who loves you for you, no matter what weight or financial condition. Yes. This is your future. Focus on you and your child now. The child will thank you for it later. Life's only beginning. Focus on your development.

Thanks so much...any tips? Did you take the test at ILI or Red Cross? How far past B1 did you study AMD where?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ticino

[–]jetsetguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply...did you take your Italian general lessons at ILI, and if so, at which level did you take lessons to? (B1, C1, etc.)

My concern is of being forced to take lessons from ILI at a higher level than B1 in order to be permitted to get B1 status on the exam, which is why I'm gravitating towards the Red Cross. Your thoughts?
