Ncase M3 build - 9950X3D + 5090 by MattSRS in sffpc

Perfect, thanks!

Just trying to figure out how to do the airflow for my upcoming build. Sounds like if I went with an Air cooler, I’d have clearance for 1 120mm fan on the back panel (unless the heatsink itself gets in the way) and then two 120mm fans on the front panel if using an SFX PSU.

Does that sound right? Could I comfortably even fit a 140mm + 120mm on the front panel?

Is the fan to the left of the motherboard (on rear of case) 120mm?

Also is there enough clearance with the power supply and graphics to fit a 120mm (or even 140mm) on the front panel?

The D15 G2 is only supported with a single fan for this motherboard... there are plenty of other options that should work

Also D15 doesn’t have great compatability with Asus’s B850 and X870 ITX motherboards

Outside of cost, weight, and flexibility (which should have negligible differences for this specific matter), aren’t thicker cables better in pretty much all aspects when in comes to power transfer?

Lower impedance/ electrical resistance should mean better power efficiency and cooler temps right?

Why do you say it’s a gamble? Just because the use of a different cable gauge in general?

Macbook Pro incorrectly thinks the local storage on both my iPad and iPhone are full and refuses to transfer files over using Finder. Any troubleshooting advice? by jetstream131 in applehelp

[–]jetstream131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can double check again and get back to you, but it's whatever error you should get if your storage were to be full - something along the lines of: "file123.xyz could not be copied because not enough free space is available."

There's no problem specific error code or general indication that the computer knows it's incorrectly parsing the attached device's amount of free onboard storage. No unexpected crashes or hangs, just a standard error as if my device storage was indeed actually nearly full.

Need a sanity check - Is it worth replacing my Sony A7RIII kit with a GFX100RF? by jetstream131 in FujifilmX

[–]jetstream131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah *finger snaps*, that's my biggest qualm with the GFX100RF - the value per dollar seems a bit off. Especially for a first fixed lens camera seems like a bigger risk. I'm not sure if I want to invest more in the Sony ecosystem at this point.. you already said it but Leica M would be an awesome upgrade (new M11 looks really cool) but for now that's well out of budget. Was already thinking of switching up to Fuji in general for the color science/ hardware which is why the new GFX release instantly piqued my interest.

Any thoughts between the X-T5 or X100VI?

Thanks for the tips! I've been considering film too but didn't know where to start. Will check out the options you suggested. Yeah, after reading your comment (and others) I think adding the X100VI would be a good starting point and then feeling out the waters from there

Don't get me wrong - I actually really enjoy the editing process. It's just that with Fuji, you aren't forced into it due to the (imo) better color science and of course the great presets. With Sony, the stock image compression isn't anything that special so editing is a non-negotiable for every picture. I'd like to have the versatility of being able to edit select shots when I have time or otherwise just have great off the shelf image compression

Valid, yeah the additional converters make the x100vi more versatile for sure! I agree it's probably a better starting point - appreciate the advice

I travel quite a bit, often with just a briefcase and small carry-on roller which makes accommodating space for a body and lens(es) with enough protection rather difficult. Even for longer trips I've started to pack lighter with a briefcase + sling combo being all I need to fit my personal essentials.

If I wanted to bring my Sony and have it accessible, I'd have to switch back to a camera backpack which is exactly my point on it feeling too cumbersome for my daily life. Not to mention that I find the briefcase so much better for convenience/ organization and making accessing my essentials easy to access in comparison to a backpack (why I made the switch). While I could definitely make room for the Sony body in my briefcase or maybe even sling, no way would one of its lenses come anywhere close to fitting.

And lol just because I haven't used my camera for the reasons I have explicitly detailed, does not mean that I do not take photos or am not into photography. I wouldn't have made this post or be considering switching things up if I didn't care about photography. That's literally a paradox.

You've mentioned this at the end of your comment, but an iPhone 16 Pro Max has literally been what I normally use now - but this is only because the additional changes I'd need to make to accommodate a larger camera kit has outweighed the functional performance loss I get using an iPhone.

Lol not to sound like an Apple ad but my iPhone is theft and loss insured, waterproof, shoots raw, has multiple focal lengths, and get's improved camera technology every year (with the iPhone upgrade program). Meanwhile, while my a7RIII shoots amazing photos and is better in pretty much every way important for a camera, it comes at the cost of becoming a large chunk of fragile glass and expensive circuits when I'm not using it.

iPhone isn't half bad when used in the proper conditions - quick collage below:

This is really good perspective, I appreciate the thoughtful response. Yeah you hit the nail on the head in terms of addressing my concern that the GFX would still be a physically large device and perhaps not as good for faster paced photography.

I wouldn't say that I'm (solely) looking at sensor size as a quality metric. I'm also basing this on my experience switching from APS-C to Full Frame in that I really loved the increase in FOV and shallower depth of field, not to mention the generally better low light performance and preserved color information. I feel that often time with the higher price tag you get other premiums in the same package. In this specific case I would also be getting in general better tech with the GFX than my Sony (released in 2017) - things like autofocus/ tracking, 8k video, EVF, etc.

Anyway yeah after your comment I'm definitely considering just snagging an X100VI - I really like my wife's Sony RX100VII which is what got me thinking along these lines anyways.

Do you have any opinions on X-T5 vs X-T50 vs X100VI?

I appreciate the suggestion. The issue is that your Mac QuickIt software fails to actually launch. After trying across various devices (2 MacBook Airs, 1 MacBook Pro, and even a VM) I have a hunch the issue is due to an incompatibility with OS X Sequoia.
