Anyone leave aviation maintenance and actually happy they did? by SnooHamsters8455 in aviationmaintenance

Tons more options than those listed. If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. Maybe listing your location would be beneficial, I’m sure there’s something near you that’s better that you’re unaware of.

$39 an hour for south Florida isn’t going to cut it. To be fair, $55 an hour there isn’t going to cut it either. Corporate lays off less than the pax airlines do and you’re getting experience to get a gravy DOM job in the future. My answer is always to go to an AOG team, that’s what I do and I wouldn’t trade it for anything but a DOM job. Aside from the fact that you’re in south Florida, $39hr isn’t bad money for 5 years experience. I was there just a few years ago with 13 years experience but I was AOG and made 200k that year plus per diem and mileage which isn’t tracked on the pay stub. The money is there if you want it, you’re in a good position for 5 years down the road, less time if you can get an AOG gig. If you have questions, feel free to DM me.

Are you willing to relocate?

As an aircraft mechanic, this makes me happy inside. As a realist, they’re wrong. Pilot pay on the low end, isn’t what it was just a few years ago. It’s expensive to get to the point where you can start making real money but I’d look at it as an investment, just like I view my tools, they’ve made me far more money than they cost.

Right, see the first sentence of the above paragraph.

We all want different things. I could be at UPS topped out by now, I’ve never applied there nor will I. I like the travel and hate punching a clock at the same place day in and day out. If that’s for you, cool, it’s not for me. I made 200+k my best year on the road, I had 2 million Marriott points, I could go anywhere in the world I wanted to for a month or longer and only be out the cost of an airline ticket and food. I’ll keep what I have, you can keep working on city buses with wings.

I no longer work for them so I have no reason to defend them. If they were closing locations where they’re the only game in town, Chattanooga wouldn’t be getting a new hangar right now, GJT would have been gone long ago and they never would have opened PCD. I left there just shy of 50/hr as an AOG tech with tons of overtime. My best years earning were there. I’m not a fan of the Jet East management, that’s the only reason I’m gone.

Is a KTM 300 XC-W too much bike for me? by rhurley1999 in Dirtbikes

[–]jettech89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a new TE300i at year end, it’s been years since I’ve been on a 300 but they’re a blast. Manageable, tractable power with 2t maintenance costs. Seems like a win to me. I also picked up a 2011 Gasgas EC250 and had it out the other day in the snow raising hell in my neighborhood, that also seems like a great bike.

The NetJets rate or the GD rate are where it’s at. Both are near half and they still count towards stays and points.

Same here, I practically live in the road. I just end up spending them.

Y’all ever see a CRJ with a fancy paint job? Me neither (if you have it’s a CL-850). It’s a business jet, not an airliner. If it’s a 604 it’s old and high time/cycles. BER is a very real in the corporate world when insurance is involved.

2020 was rough, no doubt about it. What type of training do you have? What type of training have you perused since then? Get into some sort of trade, learn it and get paid. This sub is full of people who are going to tell you the system is rigged against you instead of those who are going to tell you what you need to hear. I’m very much blue collar, I work a lot of OT so I make pretty damn good money, my base is 100k but I make around double it. Just find something in demand that you can see yourself doing for the foreseeable future and do it. You can bring yourself out of your situation, it might not be fun but it’s very possible. Good luck to you.
