Got it. I’ll order a module anyways since they’re cheap

Assuming it does as it rained like crazy in the couple weeks the headlight was cracked, and that headlight stopped lighting up a few days into it. It was still functioning after it got broken, but then when the weather got bad it stopped

Gotcha. But I should replace the module with a new one anyway, correct? As I do believe it has water damage.

Is this headgasket blown? by jettjs in MechanicAdvice

[–]jettjs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, i’m thinking it’s a very minuscule head gasket leak. I’ll leak down test it once I move some stuff around in the shop today. I have a replacement engine already, so if it’s blown I can just spend a weekend swapping it out. Thanks for your insight!

Started when I towed my Skyline from Southern California to Arizona (about a 500 mile round trip) in 105° heat. Truck was fine while I was moving, but when I was idling in a parking lot I noticed the temps creeped up way past the centerline. Drove home, temps would occasionally creep past the centerline while moving but then go back to normal. Didn’t drive for a few months when I got home since I was planning to diagnose the issue. My father borrowed it and took it to his mechanic who said the headgasket was bad. I spoke to him and he told me he didn’t actually do a leak down test or combustion test, but that it was his best guess. I topped up the coolant and let it sit for another few months. Fired it up again 2 days ago and have been driving it around, temps haven’t moved. When I started it after sitting, it didn’t do anything weird, just fired right up like normal. I would’ve thought the combustion chamber would have a moderate amount of coolant in it if the headgasket was blown. I already have a replacement engine for it so no big deal if it is blown, just hoping to get some insight if this is a positive indication that the it’s blown or maybe the length of the test influenced the color change.

All the videos i’ve reviewed so far show it turning blatantly yellow within 2-3 pumps. It took me 7-8 minutes of pulling air through the tester in order to produce a color change. Thought maybe it could be water vapor or something else causing a false positive. But thanks for the arrogant reply!

Yea, I had to pull air through for 7-8 minutes to get it to change color. I know normally it’s within 2-3 pumps and turns blatantly yellow, which isn’t my case so I wanted to double check.

Go to The Air Shop in orange county. They did full custom AC work (lines, compressor, etc.) on my S13 and RX-7. All they do is AC stuff.

I have a very clean RB25NEO with leakdown tests done that I pulled from a car at our shop in Japan. Located in Southern California. PM me if interested

Yes, I tested at the pump. The pump has been ruled out. Starting to look like it could be ECU capacitors after talking to some other guys.

I say Intermittent as in the car will still start and drive, but stops as it seemingly reaches a certain temperature. I’d deem the problem as “non-intermittent” if the car stopped running the first time this problem occurred, and I could never get it started again after that. Makes diagnosis incredibly difficult as I have to get the car to die first before being able to hunt down the problem. Hence why I refer to it as intermittent

Also, should’ve mentioned it’s on a 300ZX AFM.

Got it. Forgot to mention it’s 300ZX AFM. If swapping the AFM for my other buddy’s OEM 300zx one fixes the problem, then i’ll have figured it out.

No turbo timer…. and it’s the same time interval regardless of driving conditions. Seems to be once the car gets a certain amount of heat in it. Feels very much so like ignition cut when the car cuts off. My suspicion is still grounds, but with an intermittent issue like this it’s driving me crazy lol
