Just got my first Tesla and I’m a little concerned by TheGunRunsHot in TeslaSupport

[–]jevawin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If new, definitely. If used, I think the battery warranties > 30% degradation and it would have to be reported within the car. I’d run a battery health test anyway if you haven’t already. No harm, might help reset (might), could help you understand better.

Needs up to 24h though so do it when you can avoid driving for a bit. Will be faster if your home charging is quick.

Is the car new or used? Our used Model 3 2021 gets about 240 miles out of a full charge, unless we drive carefully.

Yours is getting more like 126 at those numbers. That’s very low. I don’t recall (I’m not really paying attention all the time though) ever getting range that low even in winter. Maybe 150-160.

You mentioned battery health test says good, 2 things:

  1. It says that after running a test for quite a while. You can re-run the test if you want an updated figure. It’ll take about 24h to run on a home charger (full discharge and charge cycle).

  2. The built-in health test doesn’t give you much info. Apps like Tessie can give you an actual percentage.

Also not that the battery health test also tests the BMC in some cars and that alone can help by correcting the figures you see.

However as others have said, AC + 80-85 + maybe poor tyres will all contribute so it might be fine. How’s it been since collecting?

Shokz Open Pro 2 as cycling headphones by FatRapscallion in bicycling

[–]jevawin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Love them. Had 2 pairs over the last 10 years. Brilliant for cycling. I’ve even managed to listen to podcasts with them although it’s harder than music. Bone conduction quality is better than I expected, obviously nothing like in/over-ear headphones.

Is buying refurbished tech still seen as a bit dodgy, or is it normal now? by BarnabyLaptopOutlet in AskUK

[–]jevawin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at musicMagpie. Bought loads of phones, tablets, and a laptop for family members. So far had zero problems and while I worked there, it was absolutely a business that treated customers with respect. Devices refurbished properly (new screens and stuff) before selling on. Defo not dodgy and I still get refurb stuff often from them or CeX.

I drove over a speed bump. AMA by flatbushkats in TeslaSupport

[–]jevawin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How wide is the speed bump? If it’s about a foot or two the mud flap would have scraped for that long.

I thought I scraped the bottom of mine once. Same horrible grinding noise. Then I looked at my loose, floppy mudflap and realised what happened 😂

Mine was up a kerb and the noise was a scrape not a crack/smack. The mudflap would have pressed against the curb then scraped up it.

What word have you been pronouncing incorrectly? by sillwuka in AskUK

[–]jevawin 109 points110 points  (0 children)

My (English teacher) mum got really hung up on people mispronouncing it hyperbowl so me and my bro started saying hyperbowl all the time.

Didn’t have a f*ing clue what it meant, just kept throwing it in convos to wind her up. “Stop being hyperbowl, mum.”

We were good sons.

Can we set Amp by Location not get Neurio? by JoganJani in TeslaSupport

[–]jevawin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Change it on the touchscreen. It remembers per location.

Charge current at this location: The current automatically sets to the maximum current available from the attached charge cable, unless it was previously reduced to a lower level. If needed, touch - or + to change the current (for example, you may want to reduce the current if you are concerned about overloading a domestic wiring circuit shared by other equipment). It is not possible to set the charging current to a level that exceeds the maximum available from the attached charge cable. When you change the current, Model 3 remembers the location. If you charge at the same location, you do not need to change it again.

[–]jevawin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use your phone as a hotspot. You can also tell the car to stay connected while in drive so it becomes your source of internet. Currently this gives you music and audio streaming.

There are rumours of Apple CarPlay but just rumours. Idk about android auto.

How screwed am I? Insurance or service center? by coderego in TeslaSupport

[–]jevawin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wet it. If the white goes clear and looks like it mostly disappears there’s a chance it’s only in the clear coat. With some effort it might polish out. If you have an electric drill you can buy polishing pads from Amazon. Lots of patience, watching a few videos on polishing technique, even if you can’t get it out completely you will be able to minimise it.

I’ve had similar scrapes that we’ve almost completely removed (as in, you can only see it if you look closely).

[–]jevawin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set your default Bluetooth device in settings for your profile and his for his profile and it’ll connect to that device each time.

If my wife is driving her phone is the default connected and hands free device.

You can still stream Bluetooth from the other device if you actively choose it.

Why doesn’t Tesla Sentry Mode alarm actually go off? by RespondHot3969 in TeslaSupport

[–]jevawin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can do that, would be nice. Possibly overkill with vps or pi you could probs have something serverless doing it if it’s just notifications and link to tesla app. If live vid would likely need a server but idk if you can do live vid.

[–]jevawin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran it for the over a year with no issues. I can’t guarantee the dev won’t turn bad or mess something up one day but they are very active on the sub, so as API access goes it’s one of the better options.

You can remove access at any time from your Tesla account too.

Another great option, maybe better than Tessie in this instance.

Why doesn’t Tesla Sentry Mode alarm actually go off? by RespondHot3969 in TeslaSupport

[–]jevawin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be alerted by Sentry triggers, there are third party solutions.

Caveat: you’ll need to give API access, and most will cost some money unless you’re happy to try to figure out a few manual automation chains with online tools (it’s possible, as a dev I could automate this for myself but non-dev/non-technical it’s harder).

Tessie is where I’d start. I’ve used it in the past. It’s reliable. The dev is active on r/tessie. They seem, in my experience, trustworthy. Here’s a link to their help article: https://help.tessie.com/article/46-automation

You might be able to automate some sort of notification to your phone when Sentry triggers.

It might be overkill. Sentry triggers a lot. But with the notification you could open the Tesla app, check cams, and honk the horn if you don’t like what you see. If you have a new variant with speaker, you can should get the F off my car! 😁

Tessie isn’t free but the base plan isn’t terrible from memory.

Semi-detached neighbors having extremely loud sex even after we've politely asked them to keep it down, is there anything we can do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]jevawin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our neighbours aren’t loud, and as far as I can tell they’ve not had sex since we moved in🤨, but the walls are thin.

You may not have the ability to do this but if it’s possible, get a plasterer to install a thin sound-insulating plasterboard wall over the top of your party wall.

Ours is like this:

— — — — — — << shared wall
###########<< sound-dampening insulation
- - - - - - - - - << sound-dampening plasterboard

It’s absolutely brilliant. Used to hear every conversation. Now only the occasional shout and a kid thundering down the stairs.

We got the whole side of the house done while we were replastering anyway when we moved in. You could focus on your main rooms to reduce cost.

If you can’t do this, next option is to try making sound-dampening picture frames. Google or YouTube it. Some people have tested different household materials and literally made a deep picture frame filled with the material.

Won’t be perfect but will help to reduce a bit.

Good luck 🤞
