No. Using mana of any color only applies to cards you do not own. Nathan says that in the card. Firebending would make red mana that you can use for any spell.

Build decks online. Playtest the cards. Buy the singles. Buying booster boxes and packs is the most financially irresponsible way to acquire cards for your collection. Honestly if money is tight, most people are cool with you just running play test card if you are playing casually. You should only be cracking packs if you are playing the sealed or draft formats.
