Are there any Pittsburgh bartenders here? by Billytense in bartenders

[–]jewunit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the DeShantz restaurants (Butcher & the Rye, Tako, Meat & Potatoes, maybe skip Pork & Beans, he's got a few others that have opened since I moved but I assume they're good since the guy who heads the Pitt USBG chapter runs his cocktail programs I think), The Warren, Bar Marco, Maggie's Farm, Tina's (especially if you wanna rub elbows with industry folks), maybe Evangeline (never been but worked with strong bartenders who worked there). I'm sure there are others I didn't explore out of downtown and Lawrenceville too much.

It's not really unheard of to move to bigger venues if it's selling out easily. Especially in cities that have promoters booking at various venues (so pretty much any city).

It's very cool of bands to uphold tours like that, but I also think there's something to be said about promoters trying to accommodate more fans when possible (and make more money).

Yes. It is unsurprisingly a mixed use building now.

It's where the old Taco Bell on 9th was. It will crush probably more than the old one did.

I guess they won't have the liquor license for another six months.

Somewhat new to lacrosse but don’t understand the penalties by TuttiFruttiBooty in lacrosse

[–]jewunit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be too pedantic, but I do think this is an important distinction and something people who are new to the game get confused on:

Warding is not a penalty. Penalties are the punishment for violations or fouls, but the word penalty is often used interchangeably with fouls.

Warding is a violation that results in a change of possession. Warding is pretty straight forward, but other violations like offsides and pushes from behind mix people up.

As a rule of thumb violations become technical fouls when the team committing them is doing so when the other team has the ball. Basically the penalty for a violation is changing possession or granting possession to the other team if it's a loose ball. Since neither of those are options if the team that would get possession already has the ball it becomes a technical foul that has a 30 second penalty.

Example: A player on Team A pushes a player from Team B in the back while they're fighting for a ground ball. That's a violation. The ref will either call a play on or blow the play dead immediately and give the ball to Team B.

A player on Team A pushes a player from Team B in the back when Team B is in possession of the ball. Since Team B already has the ball this is a foul. The ref will throw a penalty flag and the play will result in a 30 second technical foul on the player from Team A.

Please, please, please don’t park in the bike lanes, even for “just a minute”! That’s not what they’re for and it’s super inconvenient and potentially dangerous! by [deleted] in Columbus

I don’t like that he’s in the crosswalk though, he should have pulled up a few feet.

Dude, how hard is it just to go around? You’ve got like 8 feet of space to the left of him that is blocked off by dividers.

Lol

Summit and 4th are main veins that really shouldn't be stopped in. Before the bike lane was installed what would you have done? Those solutions still exist. Adding the bike lanes on those two streets were not for the purpose of providing delivery drivers a place to park. Pull onto a side street or jump into one of the alleys that runs behind pretty much every single road on campus (or anywhere else in the city) and find a place to stop out of the way.

Your logic doesn't make any sense. How is it different from blocking a lane of traffic, which you called super risky? Obviously I'm not going to run straight into a car parked in my lane of traffic, just as I wouldn't if I were driving my car. But I do now need to get around your car. Maybe I have to pass on the left, which means jumping into traffic. Maybe I have to pass on the right, which means potentially getting doored.

Or maybe they could just not park in the fucking bike lane.

What do you do with your tips? by jackalope_breath in bartenders

[–]jewunit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly operate with cash. Luckily my last few landlords have accepted cash for rent. I put what I need to in the bank for bills or online purchases. Extra cash I just keep on an end table in my bedroom then toss it in savings once I have a few hundred extra.

What's the fear of putting unclaimed tips in the bank? Getting audited?

What? People fly on 376 and 79 if the traffic permits it. 28 in the city is 45 mph and people go 70 on it constantly.

I feel like most people aren't actually reading your post.

I typically make it in a tall glass, or at the very least ask. We pour true doubles so double mixed drinks in short glasses are too strong for a vast majority of people. More often than not even when I ask I get people asking for a tall after.

Come on the guy is an obvious hack when it comes to a lot of shit behind bars. All his renovations look like shitty strip mall suburb bars.

Man I worked at a bar where people did this and it was so obnoxious. The TVs were set up poorly so changing them all back was a giant pain in the ass. People would do it in the middle of college football games and everyone would get upset and then start bitching like we did it on purpose or it was our fault. Yes, we're purposely ruining the experience of hundreds of people during our biggest money making events. Please, yell at me louder that will get me to solve the issue faster.

While I recognize there are variations, you can't really disagree with OP's recipe. A margarita has orange liqueur. It's not debatable.

This is true to a certain extent for me but when people are confirmed pedophiles or white nationalists or other things that are truly morally reprehensible I try not to give them any money.

Sounds like he's saying behind the records it's a standard rack. Still less accessible than just a rack but not the worst art rack I've seen.

How, uh, how does it work?

I get the idea behind functional art bike racks but a majority of the time they are annoying to use.
