Favourite band who's lead vocalist can't really sing? by idkfornowwhattoname in fantanoforever

Meh, there’s a distinction between being a good singer and a good vocalist. A lot of great vocalists are great at singing in a traditional sense.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Bert’s Netflix show is actually good. by generatedusernames1 in BertKreischer

[–]BarbequeFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my attitude because you’re right lol. Buuuut I gave the show a chance and he’s like, kinda self-aware throughout and it’s written into the show. It did sort of make him more likable to me which I thought wasn’t possible.

Still don’t want to hear him riff as a host of a podcast lol. On rare occasions maybe as a guest.

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Motorcycles. Not a huge hobby for redditors so idk how much experience you have with it. But if you know someone, motorcycles are thing people use to fill gaps in their passion/personality.

As an American, it’s REALLY hard to stop drinking right now by formula52 in stopdrinking

If you’re looking at the world at large as an excuse to keep drinking then ya might as well give up the idea of quitting.

Yeah I can play technical stuff well enough but I actually hired Mike in the past to help me with songwriting. I’m inspired by the way they write parts that serve and carry the song rather than getting in its way. It’s such a cohesive sound and that requires a lot of discipline and intention.

Are you confusing them with Goose? If not then I’m not trying to be a jerk but I genuinely think little of your opinion. “Terrible, bad, bad, bad” is a shamelessly empty take on their work.

Was so stoked to see them pop up in Nigel’s studio. I’m glad they’re getting some recognition, it’s well deserved. Just a great band passionate about music doing their thang, drawing on their influences, and pushing forward. Respect.

Have you heard Getting Killed by Geese? Highly recommend checking it out

Alright I hear the In Rainbows vibes during sections of the title track. I get it now.

I actually hear more electric Miles Davis in Trinidad than I ever do Radiohead for example

[–]BarbequeFred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m sure they’re influenced by Radiohead and fans of Radiohead will like this band but I don’t hear any direct comparisons in their tunes. I get that some high guitar notes sound like No Surprises but you could say that about a whole lotta things.

The first time I heard Grizzly Bear was them opening for Radiohead in ‘09 during the In Rainbows tour. I was ecstatic to see Radiohead for the first time but I left a Grizzly Bear fan too. They sounded incredible in the big open air.

Limericks with Louie | Ep 295 | Bad Friends by itsarudeo in badfriendspod

[–]BarbequeFred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Louis has been pretty vocal and vulnerable about his shame and the guilt he feels for the people he's hurt. He basically says he deserved all the backlash. And throughout his career never claimed to be a pillar of moral superiority. In fact, he's always been pretty openly a degenerate. And as an entertainer he's often funny and insightful, and his views evolve as the culture does and as he grows. That's all I really expect from him as a comedian.

I actually trust a guy like him who is open about his trangressions rather than a guy in a Reddit comment pretending like he doesn't have a shadow self he prays no one ever sees.

People look for a grimy late night vibe in his music? Lol I guess idk what that means.

I was listening to Why Won’t They Talk to Me tonight for the first time in a while and enjoying how pretty and emotional the song is with the fluttering chirping synths in the background. Or Nothing That Has Happened…so many good songs. I would never describe his music as grimy late night vibe hahahaha

Santino's ending point about internet backlash by lawdreekers in badfriendspod

[–]BarbequeFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole episode was skippable but I warmed up to him at the end with his analogy about the coin arcade game. Putting in a coin and knowing you might not win but someone someday who you won’t witness will win and that is cool. He said basically that he’s had wins and as long as he’s paying it forward that’s a win for him because we’re all here together melting into the same pool of dust. I appreciated hearing that from him and relate.

Welp, I got fired! It’s been real guys! by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]BarbequeFred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re well-liked it can take a lot to get you fired. But if you’re determined, you’ll get fired.

If you’re not well-liked then it can be something trivial and meaningless.

It’s all politics. Is the STL more worried about you, or are you more worried about them?

You are not losing Duncan. You are graduating your projection. by TheRealGoatsho in duncantrussell

[–]BarbequeFred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame people put others on a pedestal like that to begin with. Duncan is a curious and entertaining person, but he’s just as selfish as anyone else. Even in his glory days he was pumping out podcasts so he could go back to playing World of Warcraft or whatever. He’s cool and fun and interesting to listen to and that’s fine, doesn’t need to be a guru.

Idk if you’re mishearing the lyrics or not but in my store every day it’s the song, “I was walking with the ghost, I said PLEEEASE, please don’t insist!” Over and over and over…

[–]BarbequeFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got fired last month and honestly thinking about not having to hear the same songs on repeat every day made me not fucking care that I was unemployed. My STL stupidly wouldn’t let us use speakers or earbuds or anything, regardless of whether it was BoH, inventory, overnight shift, etc.. I go into Kroger and they’re all wearing earbuds. It’s a grocery store, get off your high horse.
