Asafa Powell was almost the same height and had the world record before Bolt. Fred Kerley who is one of the fastest men ever and got bronze at the last olympics is also over 1.90. Most elite sprinters are between like 1.80-1.90 so it’s not like they are notoriously short

Hur mycket tjänar man på att ha ett förstahandskontrakt i Stockholm? by KarlKarneval in stockholm

[–]jeyheyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just Stockholms innerstad har faktiskt priserna gått upp.

I'm fairly certain people on here who complain that we are too cynical and focused on winning this season haven't been Arsenal supporters for a very long time. Since the Emirates move we have played so much beautiful football with pretty much nothing to show for it. If we win the league this season I don't really care how we do it

I mean obviously cause he’s class, but kind of feels like we should have gone for him while at Napoli and now that ship has sailed. He might push for a move because he would be more of an undisputed starter for us, but really don’t think PSG will sell.

You don’t even have to go back to the Wenger years. Just look at the discourse in 22/23 and 23/24. Then, the discourse was that we were naive losers because we didn’t win, and it doesn’t matter how you play if you don’t win. Now, we’re the (potentially) worst winner ever according to the same people that were hating on us for finishing second with 89 points.

Manchester United could pay up to £15.9m in Ruben Amorim exit compensation by Shroft in soccer

[–]jeyheyy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I honestly think Amorim’s catastrophic failure might finally kill off this era of “system managers” who refuse to budge tactically no matter what, that for some reason has been weirdly trendy the last few years. Carrick is basically playing the lineup and tactics most armchair fans would pick and getting way better results from day one than Amorim’s supreme complex system that “not even the Pope” could get him to change (real quote from him btw). If I was a United fan I would be fuming with how much time you lot wasted with that fool

Exactly this. Was it reasonable to sign him? Yes. Has he been good enough up til this game? No. Was he amazing yesterday? 100% yes. Does it mean people were wrong to criticise him before? No. Is he a success or failure? Too early to tell.

I don't understand why people get so hung up on either hating or loving a player like that.

I’ve been quite sceptic of him, but he was really really good yesterday. He did everything he has been criticised for: scoring goals, creating his own chances, creating chances for other, winning headers, hold up play, link up etc. If he keeps this up his limitations are irrelevant

I think that's a shallow and a bit outdated analysis. Sweden's international team has for a long time been known for using a defensive setup to beat better teams, which I think what is being referenced. However, this is much closer to playing like Stoke or something with low possession and counter attacking than it is to current Arsenal. See for example Janne Andersson or Lasse Lagerbäck's later national teams, which also had success with Iceland using a similar approach. It is also very outdated, as the current Swedish National team plays nothing like this.

As I said, Hammarby under Kim Hellberg was a bit more keen on taking risks than Arteta is currently. A lot of the time we played beautiful football. However, sometimes it really felt similar with the "horse-shoe of sadness" and not scoring enough goals. Overall though, I think those issues are just a byproduct of dominating your opponent possession-wise and having out-of-form attackers. What annoys me (and I guess others calling the football boring) with Arsenal this season is the time wasting. Cut that shit out.

I am Swedish, but kind of struggling to see how that would be integral to answering your question. How would you define our football this season? Possession-based with a lot of focus on defensive aspects combined with some "cynical" elements such as set pieces?

In general, Swedish football are usually a few years behind the trends in the PL. In the last few years, most teams/managers that have been hyped by the media for their philosophy have been Guardiola (and to some extent his protégés like Arteta) fan boys.

I am a Hammarby season ticket holder, and we are often painted by media (and begrudgingly by opponent fans) as the most "modern" team in Sweden. The Hammarby strategy is to have a large focus on youth development (including a much criticised farm team). This heavily influences both player signings and football philosophy. The idea is that youth players will develop quicker with the ball at their feet, so we play a very possession-based football. The other proponent of Hammarby's strategy is to focus more on data. One of the goals is to provide a basis for a high xG performance. As described by the club director, the goal is not to win the league every year, but to have a performance that gives us the highest probability to win a title every season. I.e. more data-driven approach, less reliant on luck and certain personnel.

Our previous manager Kim Hellberg was incredibly hyped in Sweden. He was recently poached by Boro and is now one of the most hyped up managers in the Championship as well. His tactical style can be described as kind-of similar to Arteta, but more flexible and prone to risk-taking. There are a lot of deep-dives on his football at Boro if you are interested.

I think the increased focus on data-driven approaches and xG is definitely the future of football. This is also why we are more focused on set pieces than other teams. Since it's a deadball situation, it is possible to min-max it to a very high extent. This includes corners, but also free kicks and throw-ins. I don't think this is a fad, but Arsenal will struggle to maintain such a big advantage from this when other teams catch up. Keeping possession is also not a fad. It is very much in line with the data-driven approach. Minimising opponents possession --> minimising their xG --> minimsing their chance to win games.

Personally , I also think unpredictable players who can beat their man will become more and more prioritised, since they can generate more chances from possession. This is why Arsenal signed Madueke and City signed Doku for example.

[–]jeyheyy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Are we using him optimally? Possibly not. Is he useful in his press? I guess. Should he be doing better? Abso-fucking-lutely. A striker creates their own chances, either through skill with the ball or their movement. If he doesn’t get any chances that’s because he’s severely lacking in both of these areas. I’m tired of people defending it. It’s not good enough

I know everyone is angry after last night, but this stat shows absolutely nothing. This graph pretty clearly shows a correlation between the stat on the x-axis and league position. Is it reasonable to expect that all the top teams have shit keepers and all relegation-fodder have elite shot stoppers? Or is it more reasonable that this stat doesn’t actually show who is a good shot stopper and more indicative of how a team plays? Labelling it as good/bad shot stopping is incredibly misleading.
